On Sunday, as Townhall has been covering, Mohamed Soliman allegedly attacked Jews in Boulder, Colorado who were participating in a "Run for Their Lives" event in support of hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7, 2023 attack. He entered the country during the Biden-Harris administration and overstayed his visa, even when granted a work extension, and has thus been here illegally. President Donald Trump and various members of his administration have been clear on the crackdown involved in terrorists, terrorist sympathizers, as well as their families who would spread and act on such vile antisemitism. Not only does it speak to an improvement from the previous administration and this one on handling antisemitism, but also immigration.
However Trump may be doing in the polls for his second term, immigration has been his best issue or at least up there. This was consistently the case for the 2024 election, whether he was running against now former President Joe Biden or now former Vice President Kamala Harris. In fact, Trump may even be able to go harder on this top issue, as Cygnal's Brent Buchanan offered.
Monday's daily takes from Buchanan focused first and foremost on the terrorist attack. "Pollster: in light of Boulder terror attack, polls show deporting illegals still popular, especially among Indys," read the email subject line that was sent out. The first of three items on the list for the day was also "Send 'em home," with a link to a piece from the Daily Mail, "Boulder terror attack latest: Suspect Mohamed Soliman's illegal migrant history revealed."
"Trump still has room to push harder on the illegal immigration issue. 64% believe we should deport those illegally in the US back to their country of origin. It's a huge winning issue among Independents (61%), too. Heck, 37% of Harris 2024 voters agree," Buchanan added as his take.
Even when Trump was having issues in the polls leading to the first 100 days of his second term, CBS News at least pointed out in their poll results for late April that 56 percent of respondents approve of Trump's deportation efforts. Trump's overall poll numbers, according to RealClearPolling (RCP) have overall improved, and immigration is his best issue, with a net approval rating of +4.5. Biden left office with a net approval of -31.3 on immigration.
Then there's how this applies to Soliman and his family. On Tuesday afternoon, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem shared that Soliman's family was being deported. In a post sharing her announcement, Noem reminded how Soliman is "an illegal alien."

Such an announcement came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio also issued a warning on Monday over X.
"In light of yesterday’s horrific attack, all terrorists, their family members, and terrorist sympathizers here on a visa should know that under the Trump Administration we will find you, revoke your visa, and deport you," he shared.

That's not to say that these efforts won't be met without pushback. Already, a federal judge has moved to block the Trump administration from deporting the suspected terrorist's family.
Several district judges have ruled against the Trump administration, including on immigration. Although the U.S. Supreme Court has overall been slow to act at times and has often been more divided than conservatives would perhaps prefer, the Court has ruled in favor of the administration on these key issues. There have even been 8-1 and 7-2 decisions to that effect. The Court has also heard a case to do with birthright citizenship based on an executive order Trump signed ending the practice days into this term.
It's not merely judges at the district court level overstepping their bounds, which has been a major issue during Trump's second term. The mainstream media has been lamenting the plight of the Soliman family members, including the suspected terrorist's daughter. Perhaps the most notorious example comes from USA Today, as Leah covered earlier.
Given Trump's commitment to immigration for all three of his presidential campaigns, as well as how disastrous the Biden-Harris administration was with the chaos caused in four years, it's not surprising that this is a top issue for the president. It's one he'll likely stick to, especially if rogue district judges can be reined in by Congress and/or the highest court in the land.
