Yesterday, we learned that the Democratic Party, such as it is, enjoys a whopping 18 percent approval rating. No, that's not a typo. It's a testament to how out of touch the Dems have become, but not an indication we can rest on our laurels. One person I spoke with the other day said she believes Republicans are poised to take a shellacking in the midterms. I'm not quite as pessimistic, but I'm also not willing to rule out some electoral losses.

Many conservatives I talk to said the issue is going to be the economy, and I tend to agree with them. However, the Democratic Party is not acting like they got the memo on this, either. I see them blathering about the impending explosion of health insurance premiums — a catastrophe they caused, mind you — but with gas here in Wisconsin at $2.29 a gallon and inflation news so good even CNN couldn't deny it, Dems aren't exactly whining about the price of eggs anymore.

Instead, they're doubling down on the insane policies that got President Trump reelected in the first place. In Maine, Democrats are using the state's Human Rights Commission to go after school districts that are protecting girls. In Illinois, Democrats got die-hard liberal Cardinal Cupich to turn on them for forcing healthcare workers of all religious persuasions to participate in and promote abortion. They sneered at our troops getting $1,776 Warrior Dividend checks, with one commenter saying it's chump change and Whoopi Goldberg arguing they were bribes to get the troops to follow illegal orders.

On top of all that, Democrats keep pushing their soft-on-crime, pro-illegal immigration policies. In Fairfax County, Virginia, a Soros-backed DA has repeatedly dropped charges against an illegal immigrant who murdered someone in 2021 and committed a slew of other crimes. That illegal, Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez, was released once again on December 16. The very next day, he murdered another person. Those same policies, under the guise of "equity" and "restorative justice" have long been standard in schools, where repeat offenders — violent, disruptive, and otherwise — are kept in the classroom to the detriment of their fellow students.

This time, it killed a student at Ross S. Sterling High School in Baytown, Texas. Andrew Meismer, 16, was stabbed to death during class by Aundre Matthews. Meismer's classmates are now protesting against their district, demanding justice and saying Matthews had a history of disciplinary action and that the school ignored it.

"He was a great guy, he didn't deserve this, said one student. "And the school district is out here, they're not separating these kids that clearly aren't fit to be in a normal classroom environment and are a danger to other students."

"A few teachers were complaining about the student before," said another student. "About all the assault charges and knives that he brought on campus, but nothing was ever done about it."

"My main problem with them is that, you know, it's just business as usual, even though a child is dead. Somebody's child died on their property," said a parent.

The students vow to keep showing up until the district listens to them.

All of this is to say, I'm not entirely sure the next election will be solely about the economy. Democratic Party policies are harming real people, in real time, and that includes teenagers who just watched their classmate get stabbed to death by a guy they said is dangerous to be around.

Republicans absolutely need to tout the Trump administration's economic wins thus far and keep working to improve upon them. But Republicans need to keep hammering the Democrats on these policies that make everyone unsafe.

You can't enjoy a good economy if you're dead, after all.

These kids learned a lesson. It's a tragedy that they had to learn it in such a violent and traumatic way.

But we can, and should, blame the Democrats for that.
