There is nothing the Left loves more than virtue signaling. Far more than any of their pet causes — be it environmentalism, trans rights, or abolishing ICE — the thing that gets Democrats clout and moves the needle is their ability to pretend to be morally superior to the rest of us, to say the right things that sound great in CNN soundbites, but to never back up those statements with any meaningful actions or policies.
To them, virtue signaling is currency. It's how the rest of us are supposed to know they are A Very Good Person, and we are not, having failed to live up to their standards. The true measure of a person is to not look at what they say, but what they do, of course. And that's why Barack Obama's call to put women in charge of every government for two years rings, at best, hollow.
At worst, it's the cynical sort of performative politics that marked Obama's rise to power and the lasting damage his eight years in office did to this nation.

"Even when I was president, I sometimes fantasized about — if you put women in charge of every government for like two years, and then just kind of saw, alright, how things are going. I have a strong belief that things would, they wouldn't be perfect, but they'd be better," Obama said. "I'm confident about that, I really do."
The most obvious question here is this: if Obama really believed that, why did he run against Hillary Clinton in 2008?
But there are others: Why did he make Joe Biden, a white man, his running mate? If Obama so strongly felt that women could make the world better, why didn't he resign from office and let a woman take over?
Think of the barnburner of an Oval Office speech Obama could have given. How he's so concerned about the future of America that he feels a moral obligation to step down and hand the presidency to a woman to fix our problems.
You'll notice he didn't do that.
Of course, it's demonstrably not true. I think here of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who single-handedly ushered in the migrant crisis we're seeing not just in Deutschland, but across most of Europe. Merkel was in power for 16 years. She not only didn't make things better, but she also made an entire continent objectively worse.
Mexico is overrun with cartels and gang violence; its president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is a woman. She's been in office for almost two years, and we're still waiting for things south of the border to improve.
On a much smaller scale, I think about all the leftist women I've written about over the years. Most recently, the women on the Lindsay Clancy jury and Lindsay Clancy herself. Part of being a good leader is controlling your emotions and taking responsibility for your actions.
But we've spent the past two months being told that women like Lindsay Clancy not only can't control their emotions, but that they should be allowed to get away with murder if their hormones are out of whack.
We should totally trust women like that with the nuclear codes; what could possibly go wrong?
Time and again, it is the toxic empathy of women — usually liberal white women — that creates and supports policies that have led to the soft-on-crime policies destroying our cities. At the end of July, I wrote about a woman who was fine with her rapist walking free, so he could rape and harm other women.
"I have been raped, and they are out in the street, and I'm not sure, like, them going to jail is a solution to whatever's going on inside their heart, or even my own heart that contributed to the experience that I'm having," the woman said.
Dean Spade, a Seattle law professor, believes rapists need "accountability circles" instead of prison time.
Democrat Rep. Delia Ramirez wants to abolish ICE and the Department of Homeland Security to welcome all manner of foreign criminals, terrorists, and Third World troglodytes into our country. In the UK, such immigration policies have led to skyrocketing rates of rapes and sexual assault.
These policies have not made anything better, nor would they ever improve life going forward. They would, quite ironically, make things worse — especially for women. Look at what's happened to women in Afghanistan. Look at what Democrats do to female athletes and inmates.
Of course, when Barack Obama says he wants women in power, he means exactly these kinds of women. He does not mean a Sarah Palin or a Margaret Thatcher or a Marine Le Pen. He means leftist women. Women who would turn their toxic empathy into public policy, consequences be damned.
