We all know that if the Left didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any. This isn't surprising, of course. It's the inevitable outcome of an ideology rooted in moral relativism. If there are no rules — or those rules can change from person to person, moment to moment — there can be no principles or standards.
What's arisen out of the Left's moral relativism is reactionary, knee-jerk politics. And it's dangerous. In the United States, it takes the form of Democrats supporting insane positions that most Americans abhor or oppose: the gender mutilation of children, voter fraud, and defunding the police.
It's also part of why the Democrats trip over themselves to appease and accommodate Muslims and Islam. In France, conservative politician Marine Le Pen is saying she'll ban the hijab in public if she's elected. That's a perfectly sane and reasonable position to take. The hijab is not, unlike the nun's habit, a symbol of faith. It is a cultural requirement, ordained by Sharia law. On the Islamic garb spectrum, it's the most liberal option. Other Islamic garb is more restrictive, with the niqab and burqa covering not only the entire body but most or all of the face.
Removing the hijab, the niqab, or the burqa can result in beatings, jailing, or death. It's used by Islamic men to carry out terror attacks. It's a symbol of danger and oppression. It has no place in Western cultures, and if you want to wear the hijab and burqa in public, you can go to an Islamic country and do that.
But in response to Le Pen's promise, French women all showed the Islamic invaders that they'd gladly follow Sharia law to own their political opponents.

I refuse to do this. I refuse to submit to Islam. When I was in Egypt, I didn't cover my hair in accordance with Islamic tradition (I did wear a hat to protect me from the sun). Why do other women — especially women who supposedly believe in women's rights — do this? I'm supposed to be the one with "internalized misogyny." I'm the one who supposedly bends the knee to "the patriarchy."
Yet here I am, waving my arms and screaming that such behavior will be a disaster for women and women's rights. For a decade, Democrat women have donned red robes and warned that President Trump is turning America into Gilead. What they don't know — or care to know, probably — is that Margaret Atwood based "The Handmaid's Tale" on the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran.

It was also based on Atwood's observations of Canadian politicians, who apparently have been incompetent, hypocritical scum for decades. But more than that, they're ushering in the very thing they claim a) President Trump will do and b) they supposedly vehemently oppose.
That is the closing irony of moral relativism: when there are no fixed standards, the loudest performance wins, even if the performance is submission dressed up as solidarity, and knee-jerk politics rule the day.
The Left did not arrive at hijabs, child mutilation, and ritualized contempt for borders by accident. It holds all those positions (for now) because it treats principle as optional and power as the only remaining metric. If “women’s rights” can mean celebrating a garment used to oppress, beat, and erase women, then the phrase no longer means anything. It is just another costume.
Marine Le Pen’s position is not exotic. It is the ordinary demand of a free society: public space is not a stage for an imported, backward, sociopolitical theocracy. The women covering their hair to spite her are not striking a blow for liberty. They are not championing diversity. They are not standing in "solidarity" with anyone. They are advertising that their politics now outrank their own daughters’ faces, voices, and futures. That is not compassion. It is vanity with a death wish.
I will not pretend otherwise. I will not cover my hair to flatter an ideology that treats women as property. I will not applaud people who warn about Handmaids while helping import the original model. And I will not accept that the only “principle” left on the Left is this: own the other side, even if you have to kneel to do it. That is not resistance. It is the surrender of performative politics they believe is virtue.
