Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said serious steps were taken with President Donald Trump and American officials this week to ensure the Eastern European country will have Patriot missiles to aid in its fight with Russia. The push for Patriot defense systems to be used has loomed large for months, including in the White House meeting with the two leaders in late July.
The president has been pushing for an end to the deadly conflict, as special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff traveled to both countries for talks earlier this month.
Zelensky posted to X on Friday morning that there was a “long” meeting with American and Ukraine “negotiating teams” after he met with Trump. He also said that the United Arab Emirates is a possible location for a trilateral meeting with the Russians and the Americans.
“The agreement is as follows: we will brief the European side and discuss these details with them; the Americans will speak with the Russians; and in ten days, we will come back with views and results in some shape or form,” he wrote.

“As for a trilateral Ukraine-U.S.-Russia meeting, the American side proposed preparing it and meeting at the technical level,” the Ukrainian leader added. “We are waiting for the United States to propose a date.”
“There are concrete agreements regarding Patriot licenses. At our meeting, President Trump stressed that he had made his final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles,” he further stated.
Townhall reached out to the White House for comment.
Trump kept an optimistic tone at the United Nations General Assembly meeting earlier this week, as he previously told Townhall that he wanted to see an agreement before a formal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Putin and the president recently called after the Kushner-Witkoff talks.
“I think they’re gonna make a deal, and I don’t want to say what the deal is, and we talk about it a lot, including with President Putin,” Trump said.
“And I think something’s gonna happen, certainly they are good fighters,” he added.
