I'm still baffled why Kamala Harris chose Tim Walz as her running mate. I wrote way back in August of 2024 that it was Kamala's first major policy choice and that it was a bad one. Nearly two years later, it was so much worse than I anticipated. At the time of that first article, it seemed Walz was just an incompetent buffoon who lied about his military service and really loved the ChiComs. I thought a guy like Gov. Josh Shapiro would have helped Kamala maybe win the swing state of Pennsylvania, but Shapiro was too Jewish for the increasingly antisemitic Democratic Party base.
Turns out Tim Walz is a despicable man who oversaw the massive fleecing of Minnesota taxpayers thanks to Somali welfare fraud, which is probably why Kamala ultimately chose him. Would it surprise any of us that the campaign that blew through $1.5 billion in about 100 days wanted to get its hands on more taxpayer dollars? Not really.
He was also a petty, mean man who punished whistleblowers, attacked ICE, and turned Minnesota into a haven of leftist loons and Islamist nutters. Kamala Harris exposed Walz and the Minnesota Democrat machine for how rotten and corrupt it is, ending Walz's time as governor (and maybe his political career, but I'm skeptical on that), and for that we should thank her.
I won't delve too deeply into the fraud or the whistleblower punishment, as we've covered both here at Townhall extensively.
Perhaps the most despicable thing Walz did was issue a pardon to Tou Le Vang, a Laotian man who was convicted of sexually abusing a child for years, starting when that child was just ten years old. Walz did it to prevent the Trump administration from rightly deporting Vang, and then doubled and tripled down by saying deporting a convicted child sex offender didn't make Minnesota safer, and then scolding us for judging Vang on his 'worst day.'

First, it wasn't just a bad day. It was years of intentional sexual abuse of a child. Our entire justice system is, in fact, predicated on judging people on their worst days.
But for Walz, that was a deeply offensive position to take. He wanted Vang to remain in the community, where he could possibly abuse another innocent child, to resist President Trump, whom Walz has repeatedly smeared as a dictator and a danger.
The Minnesota Star Tribune even gave Walz kudos for it.

The governor refused to back down from his vote to pardon a Hmong man convicted of felony sexual assault in 2006. It's significant that Tou Lue Vang needed only two of three votes from the State Board of Pardons, but he received unanimous support. In addition to Walz, the board includes Attorney General Keith Ellison and state Supreme Court Chief Justice Natalie Hudson. Before her vote, the chief cited the letter of support for Vang submitted by the assault survivor. Also, Vang had not committed additional crimes in the past two decades. The Pardons Board makes weighty, life-changing decisions after studying cases and history. In this case, Vang's pardon made him a political punching bag. Secretary of State Marco Rubio deported him to Laos. Vangs actions 20 years ago were awful, but so were the violent protests at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and those folks received presidential pardons. Of the deportation, Walz said, "And just by picking them up and taking them out with no due process, it just seems unfair." Cheers to Walz for standing behind the pardon.

But it's not fair to pound on Walz, fun and easy though it may be. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was also exposed as an angry, incompetent man who has run his city into the ground. This includes one of his top officials, Abdi Nur Salah, who was involved in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal, being arrested for a DWI. Salah refused to submit to blood and urine testing.

Frey has made a habit of obstructing ICE in the city, opposing the federal crackdown on Somali fraud, and turning a blind eye to crime and violence in his city.
After a 'trans identifying' man shot up the Annunciation Catholic Church and School, killing two children and wounding several others, Frey blamed the guns. When ICE agents defended themselves against Renee Good's SUV, Frey told them to get the f**k out of his city.
Renee Good and Alex Pretti were simply listening to Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, of course. She told Minnesotans to 'put your bodies on the line' for illegal aliens who would just as soon rob, rape, and murder you. Flanagan also donned a hijab to pander to the Islamists in her state, and called Somalis the 'fabric of the community.' Then she had the audacity to lament how Operation Metro Surge meant a girl couldn't go on field trips, demanding justice for this girl but not for the countless men, women, and children harmed by Democrat policies, including their love of illegal immigration, criminals, and school shutdowns.
For his part, Walz not only dropped out of the gubernatorial race but also said he's done with politics. I don't buy it. It's likely Sen. Amy Klobuchar will succeed him—good luck, Minnesota—and that means someone will have to take her seat. I would bet money that Walz either appoints himself or Klobuchar appoints him to finish out her term in the Senate. We'll see whether or not my prediction comes true.
But the bottom line is this: no one would have heard a thing about what was happening in Minnesota had Kamala Harris not picked Walz as her running mate and turned a spotlight on his state. The media would have run cover for this, and guys like Vang would have been allowed to remain in the state, where he could possibly harm more children.
So kudos, Kamala, for exposing the absolute dumpster fire that is Minnesota.
