Composer Marty O’Donnell is best known for creating the soundtracks for the Halo and Destiny video games, and he’s now hoping to bring a new tune to Washington.
O’Donnell is running to replace Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) in Congress, and he’s expected to address the RNC’s midterm convention in Dallas this week. The race is considered “Lean Democrat” by the Cook Political Report, which makes it one of the tightest races in the country this November.
“I would say my main point will be something that I think just about everybody can agree on, which is that one good job used to be enough to raise a family, to buy a home, to take a vacation – the normal things that people all want,” he said.
“And they don't want government to be having a boot on their neck preventing them from doing the things that they want to do. And they don't want to have to have multiple jobs just to get along,” the Republican continued.
President Donald Trump visited Las Vegas in early August to tout “no tax on tips” in the major hospitality hub, and O’Donnell noted that those policies are directly impacting voters in his district.
“The voters that I've been talking to in the district are very happy with the […] family tax cut plan,” he said. “It’s actually affecting their bottom line.”
“The hospitality workers, people who depend on tips […] they have more money in their pocket,” he added, noting that no tax on overtime pay is also a “really great program.” The tax reforms were part of the massive “One Big Beautiful Bill” signed by the president last year.
When asked about the COVID-era tourism slump in Sin City, he said that the area has “come back stronger than ever.”
“The statistics that I'm seeing is that tourism is thriving, the casinos are doing well, the hotels are actually doing even better,” O’Donnell said.
“So what Gov. [Joe] Lombardo and all of us are talking about is that we also wanna see a more diversified business climate, especially in Southern Nevada because it's so heavily reliant upon the entertainment and the casinos and hotel hospitality type of industry, that it's a great place for other businesses,” he continued.
Townhall reached out to Lee’s campaign for comment regarding O’Donnell upcoming address.
"It’s almost Labor Day, and groceries, gas, and health care are all more expensive," the Democrat posted to X last week. "From reckless tariffs killing jobs and tourism to their illegal war and the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill ripping food and medicine away from veterans, seniors, and kids, Trump and his allies in Congress have only made life more expensive for southern Nevadans."
