I know, collectively, society has the memory span of a goldfish. But, to paraphrase my favorite line from "Men in Black," a person can remember. People can forget and you know it. I have not forgotten what the Left tried to force on us during COVID, and you shouldn't either.

They wanted to keep us locked in our homes, not for just two weeks in many cases, but until the infection stopped entirely. On top of that, if you refused the experimental, miscarriage-causing, myocarditis-inflicting COVID shot, they wanted to make you a prisoner. In many places like New York, California, and Cook County, Illinois, forced vaccine passports on people.

To leave your home, you had to show your papers. Quite literally. I worked at a hospital in 2020, and we were all given letters on company letterhead stating that we were healthcare professionals who could leave our homes as essential employees. Because I was fortunate enough to work day shifts, I never had to show them. Night shift staff were routinely pulled over on their way to work.

Instead of being productive members of society, however, we should all just be criminals. Because in Illinois, criminals get more freedom than law-abiding citizens. It doesn't matter how violent the criminal is, it doesn't matter how many prior arrests. Illinois state law says any criminal who is on electronic monitoring — including murder suspects — is entitled to two unmonitored free-to-roam days.

There are currently 87 defendants charged with murder or attempted murder on electronic monitoring in Cook County. That anyone suspected of murdering or trying to murder another person isn't behind bars until trial is absurd enough, but there are also 181 defendants charged with sexual assault who are also on electronic monitoring. All told, just over 3,200 people are supposedly being monitored by the state, but between 10 and 12 percent of them are currently unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, the state gives these violent criminals what essentially amounts to a free pass to commit more crimes, and Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke confirmed that these criminals go on to commit more crimes on the days they're unsupervised. Keep in mind, O'Neill Burke is one of the masterminds behind Chicago's latest anti-crime effort on the city's subway system: signs that politely ask criminals not to rob, assault, rape, or murder their fellow CTA passengers.

That'll work, I'm sure.

There is no better illustration of the two-tier justice system at work here. During COVID, the Left wanted to make life "hard" for the unvaccinated. They wanted to imprison us, or make us show papers to go to the grocery store, the movies, school. Family courts used vaccination status to strip parents of custody and 30 percent of Democrats wanted all unvaccinated parents to lose their children.

In the same state that lets criminals roam free, State Rep. Jonathan Carroll introduced a bill that would have required the unvaccinated to pay all COVID-related medical expenses out of pocket, claiming those people were "clogging up the healthcare system."

Gee, what happened to healthcare being a right, guys?

There also isn't a doubt in my mind that the Left would love to enact COVID-style lockdowns and mandates for other "public health emergencies" like "climate change."

Meanwhile, the criminals who undoubtedly get taxpayer-funded public defenders, taxpayer-funded healthcare, and clog up the hospitals with victims and the judicial system with repeat offenses get two whole days in which the government covers its eyes and says, "Pinky promise you'll a good boy for the next 48 hours."

O'Neill Burke says the only fix to this problem is a legislative one. Might I suggest voting out every single Democrat in Springfield as the first step to that solution?
