Today is Wisconsin's primary election, and it looks like Francesca Hong is a lock to be the Democrats' nominee for governor. I am still, quite honestly, on the fence about whether or not I'll cross over and vote for Hong to pull her across the finish line. On one hand, the polls in Michigan were very wrong; Abdul El-Sayed was supposed to blow Haley Steves out of the water. She lost by less than a percentage point.
On the other, if Hong were to beat Tom Tiffany in November, an unlikely prospect to be sure, but not an impossible one, I don't want that on my conscience. Why? Because if Hong wins, people like this young man will be effectively running the state of Wisconsin.
I went to Wisconsin to ask people who they're voting for.

"I support Francesca Hong," the man said. "She wants to get ICE out and all of her ... there's so many different policies and I consider myself to be a leftist and I think there needs to be a huge change in how we view our politics in Wisconsin, the entire state. I think she will bring us in the right direction."
When asked about his message to Democrats worried about the rise of socialism, the leftist said, "Don't be worried that we're going to head towards communism because it's the United States and that's never going to happen realistically, and we're headed towards fascism right now, so what's worse?"
Seeing as we're not "headed towards fascism right now," communism is definitely worse. It killed more than a hundred million people in the 20th century alone.
When asked about criminals crossing the border, the man said, "They already do. And they don't use the border. They'll just find a way around. I feel like they are just as worried about our criminals heading into their countries."
There isn't a single American criminal who would head to Mexico or any other nation. That's because, unlike parts of America, foreign nations will throw them in prison for a long time. Or execute them.
This is the Left. This man is a great representative of the Democratic Socialists of America: ill-informed, naive, and indoctrinated. Like Hong, he probably believes giving free stuff to criminals in the name of "public safety" will stop them from robbing, assaulting, raping, and murdering innocent people. He did say she had good ideas, after all.
I'll remind you here that Milwaukee actually had socialist mayors in the past. The municipal building is named for one of them, as a matter of fact. Now, Milwaukee's public school district performs at the bottom nationally, the city is one of the most segregated in the country, and it's rife with violence and other crime. Socialism did not create a utopia in Milwaukee, where a Republican hasn't been mayor for decades. There's no reason to believe socialism would create a utopia on the state level, either.
Republican Tom Tiffany has said frequently that Wisconsin must be a firewall against this rise of socialism, and he's right. Imagine this guy making public policy, and realize that's what Hong would do.
