Wisconsinites have an important decision to make on April 4th between the Constitution and liberal activism. Absentee ballots are already being cast to determine the balance of power on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and the political future of the Badger State could hinge on the outcome. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has the power to re-write congressional maps. That power in the wrong hands – like those of liberal Janet Protasiewicz, the Democrat-supported candidate for the open seat – could spell doom for Wisconsin’s political future and make Wisconsinites less safe.
Here’s what judges are supposed to do: fairly interpret the law and respect the Constitution as opposed to legislating from the bench. Here’s what Protasiewicz would do: use the power of the gavel to push her political agenda, including upending any conservative wins in Wisconsin that she can. She’s already on the record saying that Wisconsin’s state legislative and congressional maps are "rigged" and that she wants to redraw them. Why? Because that would give Wisconsin Democrats an opening to create a map that shuts out opportunities for Republican representation from the Badger State. Democrats don’t want to debate their ideas and let the voters decide. They want to stack the deck to secure their far-left agenda without fair opposition – and they want to use Protasiewicz to do it.
In addition to her stated desire to legislate from the bench, Protasiewicz’s extreme left-wing history as a judge shows why she’s out of step with Wisconsinites. She has a reckless pro-criminal track record and has consistently delivered weak sentences for even the most heinous crimes. She once elected to send a repeat offender to anger management classes instead of serving 12 years for strangling an ex-girlfriend; the man took advantage of avoiding prison by murdering another girlfriend. Protasiewicz sentenced a mom to only four years of probation for starving her 16-year-old son to death. The list goes on: the fact is that Protasiewicz has an alarmingly weak record on child abuse, sexual assault, and rape. Wisconsin voters need to be aware of that before they head to the polls and help decide their state’s political future.

Given her extreme record, it’s no surprise that Protasiewicz is aligned with hard-left groups and politicians who put criminals over citizens. She stands in lockstep with Citizen Action Wisconsin, an anti-law enforcement group that seeks to end cash bail, eliminate gang databases, and abolish the enforcement of drug crimes. She’s a proud ally of Mandela Barnes, who unsuccessfully campaigned for the Senate in Wisconsin with a pro-criminal record that caused law enforcement groups to issue stern warnings about the dangers of his candidacy. Protasiewicz is also proudly endorsed by Hillary Clinton, Planned Parenthood, and is relying on outside liberal spending to power her campaign while ducking debates.
Whereas Protasiewicz is just another politician in robes who would put criminals over citizens, her opponent Daniel Kelly is a strong constitutionalist who would put the rule of law over a partisan agenda. We have plenty of partisan politicians already – we don’t need another one on the bench of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, where issues should be debated on their merits as opposed to rubber-stamped for political gain. The Badger State deserves a Supreme Court that is beholden to its citizens, not to special interests and a progressive liberal agenda.
The RNC is invested in this race because it will have a significant impact on Wisconsin’s future. We have hundreds of volunteers and field staff across the state working hand-in-glove with the Wisconsin GOP to knock doors and make calls. We are recruiting and training volunteers for Election Observer shifts to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election. Our digital program is working to target voters and get them to the polls, and we’ve made hundreds of thousands of voter contacts.
It’s not every day that a state Supreme Court race attracts this kind of national recognition. But we all need to pay attention to this race and work to make sure Wisconsin’s Supreme Court doesn’t fall victim to the far left. Giving hardcore, pro-criminal progressives control of the state’s judicial body would make Wisconsinites less safe and radically alter their representation in Washington, DC. On April 4th, vote for the constitution. Vote for safety. Vote for Daniel Kelly.
