The Republican Party platform has been out for several days now. The platform lists the following 20 points and then provides a brief explanation of how some of them are to be accomplished:

“1. Seal The Border, And Stop The Migrant Invasion

2. Carry Out The Largest Deportation Operation In American History

3. End Inflation, And Make America Affordable Again

4. Make America The Dominant Energy Producer In The World, By Far!

5. Stop Outsourcing, And Turn The United States Into A Manufacturing Superpower

6. Large Tax Cuts For Workers, And No Tax On Tips!

7. Defend Our Constitution, Our Bill Of Rights, And Our Fundamental Freedoms, Including Freedom Of Speech, Freedom Of Religion, And The Right To Keep And Bear Arms

8. Prevent World War Three, Restore Peace In Europe And In The Middle East, And Build A Great Iron Dome Missile Defense Shield Over Our Entire Country — All Made In America

9. End The Weaponization Of Government Against The American People

10. Stop The Migrant Crime Epidemic, Demolish The Foreign Drug Cartels, Crush Gang Violence, And Lock Up Violent Offenders

11. Rebuild Our Cities, Including Washington DC, Making Them Safe, Clean, And Beautiful Again.

12. Strengthen And Modernize Our Military, Making It, Without Question, The Strongest And Most Powerful In The World

13. Keep The U.S. Dollar As The World’s Reserve Currency

14. Fight For And Protect Social Security And Medicare With No Cuts, Including No Changes To The Retirement Age

15. Cancel The Electric Vehicle Mandate And Cut Costly And Burdensome Regulations

16. Cut Federal Funding For Any School Pushing Critical Race Theory, Radical Gender Ideology, And Other Inappropriate Racial, Sexual, Or Political Content On Our Children

17. Keep Men Out Of Women’s Sports

18. Deport Pro-Hamas Radicals And Make Our College Campuses Safe And Patriotic Again

19.  Secure Our Elections, Including Same Day Voting, Voter Identification, Paper Ballots, And Proof Of Citizenship

20. Unite Our Country By Bringing It To New and Record Levels of Success.”

In general, the platform calls for the following:

--Economic Revival: Slash regulations, cut taxes, and promote fair trade to create the greatest economy in history.

--Education Reform: Emphasize parental rights and school choice to cultivate excellent K-12 education, free from political indoctrination.

--Healthcare and Social Security: Protect seniors and make healthcare more affordable.

--National Defense: A robust military and strong alliances to ensure national security.

--Immigration: Strict vetting and enforcement of immigration laws to safeguard American sovereignty and security.

As to be expected, some of the platform issues are specific, some of them are more generalized and don’t give any definite policies in how the party intends to accomplish the goal. For example, number 3 speaks of ending inflation and making “America affordable again.” The explanation for this says, “History shows that Inflation will not magically disappear while policies remain the same. We commit to unleashing American Energy, reining in wasteful spending, cutting excessive Regulations, securing our Borders, and restoring Peace through Strength.” If the Republicans can enact specific policies to do these things, then indeed, inflation should go down.

Number 7, “Defend Our Constitution, Our Bill Of Rights, And Our Fundamental Freedoms, Including Freedom Of Speech, Freedom Of Religion, And The Right To Keep And Bear Arms” is rather generic. The platform doesn’t have a “chapter” explaining detailed policies about this, but obviously, various actions taken to accomplish some of these things would require a longer explanation than a brief summary can provide. Still, these are noble goals the Democrats are trying to destroy for the American people.

Other summary platform statements are quite specific: secure the border, carry out the largest deportation in history, make America the dominant energy producer in the world, stop outsourcing and strengthen American manufacturing, end the weaponization of government, make the military the strongest in the world, keep the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency, no cuts in Social Security and Medicare, cancel the electric vehicle mandate, cut federal funding for “woke” schools pushing Leftist dogmas like “critical race theory” and “gender ideology,” keep men out of women’s sports, deport pro-Hamas radicals, and secure election integrity with proof of citizenship.  All the above will need Congressional action to make them permanent; I’m not sure how much Trump can get away with by “executive orders.” And such “executive orders” can be undone by the next Democrat President. Congressional laws are harder to amend. Thus, a Republican House and Senate would virtually be a necessity to accomplish these needed ideals.

It’s a good platform. I’d like to have seen some stuff like “get the U.S out of the UN and NATO”—I’m tired of wasting money on those useless organizations—but one can’t have everything one wants, can one? Obviously, if Mr. Trump can win the election and the Republicans can accomplish some of the most vital of the above, such as secure the border, remove illegals from the country, shore up the education system, and cut inflation, they will have accomplished much for the American people.

It doesn’t take long to spill an entire carton of milk, but cleaning it up requires some time. The above objectives won’t be achieved in a day; the Democrats have done too much damage. But at least the Republican Party, if they can get elected this fall, has something to shoot for.  And we, the people, would need to hold their feet to the fire to make sure they did what they said they were going to do.
