I have been enamored with time travel for many years.

The first time I read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, I was smitten.

Many authors and movie producers have tackled the subject of time travel, not the least of which, actor Michael J. Fox in one of my favorite movies Back to the Future.  Currently, it seems we have all entered the portal and traveled back in time, specifically to the 1930s.

Welcome to Germany, where Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels controlled all that was told to the public.  Information that didn’t support the Nazi program was massaged, manipulated, and twisted until it did endorse the Third Reich.

Goebbels always said that if a lie was told long enough and repeated over and over again, ultimately, in the listener’s mind it would become truth.

So, in the U.S., we have now moved from outright lying to seasonal adjustments.  According to the recently released Empire State Manufacturing Survey, two-thirds of the components declined, painting a rather bleak picture.

In fact, the following categories all experienced a downturn: prices paid, prices received, new orders, firm optimism, and general business conditions.  However, once passed through the hands of the “propaganda minister,” New York State manufacturing growth was reported to be at its highest level in over a year.

Tell the lie long enough and people believe.

In the late 1930s, the United States attempted a strangulation of Japan.  Not only did we cut- off raw materials to the import starved country, we also blocked oil deliveries and ultimately stopped Japan’s ability to access the world’s currency markets.

In addition to sending war ships into their waters, we also positioned strategic bombers in the Philippines.  Keep in mind, all this was done before December 7th 1941.

Presently, as we place sanction after sanction against Iran, we maneuver our warships through the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, we also encourage oil embargos by the European Union in order to disrupt Iran’s oil business.  Finally, we are contemplating a recommendation regarding Iran’s expulsion from SWIFT, an independent financial clearinghouse that is crucial to Iran’s overseas oil sales.

It’s the 1930s all over again, and we know exactly how the last sovereign attack campaign ended.  Speaking of campaigns, the only thing we need in order to make our trip back in time a trifecta is to have President Obama embrace the same kind of re-election campaign that FDR utilized in 1936.

That strategy entailed creating class warfare by pitting the so-called “haves” against the so-called “have-nots.”  It was a nasty divisive tactic that was extremely successful in FDR’S re-election.

Just imagine if Obama used that very same scheme.

Oh, wait, I think he…..time travel, isn’t it exhilarating?
