There are things that seem so basic, but they no longer are, like decency.

Arriving in Madison, Wisconsin, in the Fall of 1987, I didn’t know anybody. That was not much of an issue, as over time I would get to know classmates and others on and around campus. But a problem arose. A new "Death Wish" movie starring Charles Bronson came out. At the time, there was no Netflix or even a local Blockbuster. If you wanted to see a movie, you had to go to a theater. And I realized that in my life I had never been out to a movie alone. I had always gone with friends or family. What to do? So for the first and only time in my life I went to the big screen all by myself. I slunk into my seat and watched Bronson’s character wipe out about half of New York.

When leaving such a movie, one doesn’t feel that he is morally confused to like the vigilante and loathe the bad guys whom he killed. The latter were all thieves or worse, while Bronson’s guy took it upon himself to be the local law in the lawless world that New York was in the 1970s. But today, Bronson would be labeled a violent right-wing murderer and his “victims” would be lauded as poor folks who were just hungry and were looking for some way to have money to buy food. Okay, okay, it’s only a movie, but like a Rorschach Test, how we respond can say a good deal about who we are.

It would seem to this writer that condemning Hamas for its actions on October 7, 2023, would be a no-brainer. There is no shortage of hard evidence as to the depravity and violence of their day-long murder and torture spree in southern Israel. Their own GoPro cameras, as well as prison testimonies, would be enough to convict them, but we also have the words of eyewitnesses, first responders, and medical staff who had to treat the dead and wounded. Women’s breasts being cut off is not something up for debate. Same with a live grenade found in the private parts of a murdered woman. So everyone can condemn Hamas, right? Wrong.

There are many in the West who not only cannot condemn Hamas but actually praise it, either verbally or by making Halloween a daily event with keffiyeh and a headband. From their perspective, Israel is evil, as are its citizens and, more generally, Jews. For them, every Israeli is a bad character from "Death Wish," and Hamas terrorists are no different than Charles Bronson in cleaning things up. Now this is a stretch in moral depravity. Bronson’s guy never killed a child, and he never fired on anyone who was not an active criminal. The folks over at the U.N. or the new and upcoming senator from Michigan would argue that every Israeli, by existing, is an automatic criminal, land thief, and murderer. That can be the only explanation for why they cannot condemn the Muslims who raped and murdered unarmed women and wantonly killed Jewish children. In any normal moral system, such activities would activate wall-to-wall outrage. But if you have built a system where all Israelis (code for: Jews) are evil by their very existence, then their being killed is not only not repulsive; it is a cathartic, necessary, and positive act. If you can’t condemn Hamas and its actions, then you are morally perverse.

Hitler and his modern “Woke Right” acolytes understood that the Jew had to be completely demonized. He and they could not afford a system in which a normal person looks at a child who has done no wrong or a neighbor who has always been there for him and then starts to use his brain to get to a rational conclusion that these people don’t deserve to suffer or die. Hermann Göring bellowed that 60 million Germans tell him that the Jews are swine, but there is this one single Jew whom he knows, and the guy is A-Okay. What the Left in the West, hand-in-hand with the Qatari-funded Muslim Brotherhood, wish to do is to make first Israel and then later Jews so evil in the world’s thinking that doing anything to them would be considered to be the right thing to do. It took the U.N. eons to actually admit that Hamas engaged in a clearly recognizable pattern of sexual violence. Heck, its guys came with instructions on how to say in Hebrew to get undressed, etc. The U.N. could not condemn Hamas, because its own UNRWA made the attack possible. Many U.N. members like Jews being tortured, killed, and taken hostage. It’s like Mr. Weasley initially asking how well his enchanted car flew until his wife spun him around and made him give a mealy-mouthed condemnation of the children’s taking the car.

Vice President JD Vance made it his business to blame the Iran War and Israel’s relationship with the U.S. as major contributors to the Republican wipeout this week. No, it wasn’t the high cost of living or the lack of affordable housing for many young Americans. The Iran War could have ended months ago, with gas going down to under $3 a gallon if Vance had not played lawyer for Qatar and Pakistan with his MOU and wasted negotiations. As to Israel, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio understand that she is a great ally of the U.S. I know living here how much Israelis love the U.S. and appreciate her support and friendship. The only ones making the Israel is bad for the U.S. argument are Jew-hating Muslims, lefties who see Jews as oppressors, and losers on the right like JD’s bestest buddy, Tucker Carlson. Israel did not cause the Republicans to lose. As in all U.S. elections since time immemorial, Americans voted with their pocketbook and found it missing a lot of cash. Much of the damage was done under Biden, but tariffs and dragging out the war did not help to make things better. I believe that Donald Trump’s economy will improve until he leaves office. But people voted on Tuesday based on how they felt economically on Monday.

With Vance’s Israel-hatred (which is always Jew hatred with a few cheap garments over it) so clear, I am left in a bit of a pickle. I cannot and will not write to help an antisemite become president of the United States. Even if JD Vance felt what he said was true, he could have used some of his brain (I know, he went to Yale, so this is a bit of a stretch) to realize that now is not the moment to criticize Israel. A Muslim Brotherhood member is going to the Senate. Israel is attacked internationally from all sides. But Vance is Carlson with a beard. Carlson was selling merch before the election with brilliant statements like everything is expensive because I’m paying for Israel’s war. I cannot write to help JD Vance get elected. But I also cannot write to further rip apart the frayed and still fraying “Republican coalition.” Thus, for the good of all, I will be signing off for some time.

I have enjoyed writing for Townhall, and the staff here has been both professional and extremely friendly. Townhall is an amazing website, as are its readers, whose comments and support I have enjoyed. Some of the best in the business write on this website, and I will continue to read their work and keep up my subscription. I cannot help JD get elected, and I will not sit around and attack the guy who may be the next Republican candidate for president. Donald Trump was truly a one-off. There are many great people in his orbit. JD Vance is not one of them.
