If one tries to find a single thread that ties together all of the progressive manias from trans to climate change, it would be the desire to destroy the world as we know it.
If one thinks of “progressives”--a misnomer if there ever was one—and their approach to virtually every aspect of our lives, he realizes that their goal is to destroy the world built up over countless generations. No custom or tradition is safe from the destructive force of leftwing activists primarily in the US and Europe. Below is just a partial listing of areas of human endeavor that have been changed from what was accepted since pretty much forever.
*Man’s quest for progress. Humans have an innate desire to progress, sometimes by leaps and bounds, oftentimes only incrementally. Every generation, until now, has benefited from better products, from clothes to phones, to air conditioners and cars. Picture if Apple were to announce after the future iPhone 16 that there will be no more new iPhones. That version is the best and last. People would be stunned and move over to Samsung, as people always expect—and partially demand—better phones, even if they only have a slightly faster processor and a somewhat brighter screen. Today, we have politicians and intellectuals who demand a future with worse outcomes and fewer choices than we have today. If the world truly moved over to renewable energy sources, we could write off our air conditioners that make life so liveable. They have already said that they want to take away gas stoves and push people into EV’s that take a lot longer to charge and have reliability issues in extreme cold. The Davos crowd would like you to eat bugs instead of real meat and would ask you—but not them—to give up on air travel. They want to destroy farming in the West in the name of climate change and do not care if this means less food at higher prices. This is the first time in history where “leaders” are not just demanding tightening of belts as say during a war but are actively promoting a future that is less good than the present we have today. In every way, it goes against human nature that always yearns for a better future.
*Marriage and the sexes. Much of left-leaning effort is directed towards obliterating traditional views of the sexes and by extension, marriage. The US already recognizes gay marriage, something that could never have been mentioned in political circles just 20 years ago. They are pushing guys into women’s sports, with no care for the injuries being suffered by girls and women. They are demanding explicit sexual material in books for minors to remove any innocence from childhood. Hardcore porn that would have been hidden by Hustler 10 years ago now can be found in 4th grade classrooms.
Included in the destruction of the difference and appreciation of the unique male and female sexes is the role of the armed forces in promoting trans soldiers and forcing women into combat roles for which they are unfit. The Marines practiced with mixed units and found that including women meant having separate washing and sleeping facilities in the field, women unable to carry as much as men and the altered dynamics of men and women together in close quarters. The Marines asked to be excluded from President Obama’s directive to thoroughly integrate women into combat units; they were denied.
*Immigration. The US is definitely a country of immigrants—legal immigrants. The destruction of the southern border is once again a feature to take away a time-tested concept of humanity: people like to self-associate and define their sense of place. When American towns incorporated or when territories became US states, the people living in such places defined themselves by their location and their borders. Look at the intense college football rivalry between two adjacent states such as Texas and Oklahoma. The border between them is arbitrary but the fans feel that they belong to their state and consequently want to crush their geographically arbitrary neighbor. Wiping out the US southern border is one more attempt to remove an accepted human practice, namely defining a place for the benefit of those who live in it.
*The morality of good and bad. The support for Hamas that started immediately after the massacre of 10/7 and continues on campuses and in the streets of major Western capitals is something that would seem impossible to comprehend. While Hamas tries to spin some story of their only attacking military targets, their own cameras along with the testimonies of terrorists and the statements of victims show a picture of the macabre torture and slaughter of innocents. They had hours to do what they wanted with Israeli civilians and they did everything their deranged and barbaric dreams could imagine. The graphic description of rape, beheading, burning alive, and more is something that cannot be denied or described in some soothing terms. Yet, students and adults come out by the thousands to support that which Hamas did. I have never heard them call for a two-state solution or denounce the proven violence against women. They demand a Palestinian state free of the 9 million Israeli Jews “from the river to the sea” and as to the Jews—the victims—they demand “intifada revolution”. Intifada means the murder of civilians, and our college students and leftwing agitators are completely fine with it, if those civilians are Jews. They try to claim colonialism or settler violence as justification of the torture, murder, and kidnapping of women and children, but they do so only in order to sleep at night. Their claims are empty. Israel made no provocation on the 6th of October, Gaza has been free of Jews for 18 years, and the UN and most countries recognize the site of the pogrom as being within the borders of a recognized state of Israel.
What ties all of the anti-human behavior listed above is the abandonment of religious life in the West. The central role of marriage between man and woman and the importance of the family are all familiar religion-based concepts that passed through the generations until the past decade or so. Many laws on the books today can find their original sources in the Talmud or other ancient religious books that dealt with such things as contracts, ownership, definitions of life and death and even abortion. Many feel that by abandoning religion and embracing science they have become free. Science can explain how the world works and provides us with drugs and technical breakthroughs; who needs religion? But what a religious life offers that science cannot is a value system. Religions as representations of God’s will define good and bad, right and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable. And it worked—not perfectly by any stretch—for generations. People knew not to steal; tell that to the owners of Walgreens in San Francisco today. They knew to tell the truth; tell that to Joe Biden when he denies cashing in on his name and position. Today’s religion-free West is like a person who has a compass and thus always knows where he is going. After feeling that the compass is controlling his life, he throws it away. He feels free now to go where he wants but he has no clue as to where he is going or if he is approaching his ultimate destination or moving further away from it.
This then is our modern age. We have technical geniuses like Sam Bankman Fried who is a wizard with numbers but cooked the books and left many without their money or Mark Zuckerberg who can live behind a giant wall yet call for unrestricted illegal immigration. The billionaires fly into Davos on private planes and tell you to forget air travel or even owning a gas stove. They have no morals and thus they have no shame as they actively destroy the foundations of the West.
One can argue that religions have brought war, persecution and hatred. Hamas based its actions on Islamic teachings; over 70% of Arabs agree with what they did. But in the West, the loss of religion has meant the loss of that moral compass. We see it in every passing day, with more of that which was accepted for hundreds or even thousands of years being ripped up and destroyed. De Tocqueville said that “America is great because she is good.” May America find the moral good again and with it the greatness to lead.
