The Left and its institutions are boring. One knows well beforehand its views on any subject, as it sacrifices honesty, truth, and sincere investigation for ideological rigidity.
The hallmark of intellectual curiosity is the willingness of its practitioner to go wherever the facts take him or her. A good scientist may have a theory, but if experimental data point in a different direction, then the researcher should, like riding a wave, take it all the way to the end. The institutions controlled by the Left have sacrificed intellectual honesty and even mild curiosity in order to hold on to an unbending ideological program. One result is the destruction of Western society; another outcome is boredom.
Here in Israel, one can know how the high court will rule well before the justices put on their black gowns. The general pattern is summarized below. The court will almost always...
Support Palestinian interests over Jewish or Israeli interests;
Support left-leaning initiatives against the government or religious Jews;
Weaken Torah observance;
Side with a country or group against Israel;
Vote against the ultra-orthodox;
Work to harm Benjamin Netanyahu; and,
Interfere with the business of the government if it is right-leaning.
I attended several hearings of this kangaroo court, including the one to determine if 1,000 terrorists would be released for the captured soldier Gilad Schalit. Everyone knew that the court would approve the swap, as Hamas had said that a failure to release the terrorists on time would lead to the soldier’s death. It was a three judge panel until one of the judges fell asleep. The remaining two agreed that the law gave those harmed by the terrorists two weeks to appeal the early release, but that the swap would occur two days later, as Hamas had dictated. In cases where Sabbath observance is on the line, one knows that the court will encourage Sabbath desecration as well as the weakening of kosher standards. As I said, the Left is nothing if not boring.
In the US, one knows that a Disney movie will have a white dude as the bad guy. Women and minorities will always be oppressed and the good guys. Homosexuals and trans will be the stars. You will not see a mass murderer trans woman coming from Hollywood, though several mass murders have been performed by people claiming to be trans. Universities, where donations and support for Democratic candidates are well over 90 percent, will generate research supporting the causes of the left: "birthing people”, EV cars with their dirty lithium and mineral footprint somehow being “clean”, illegal aliens as somehow having a right to live and work in the US. I remember a mass email from a previous Harvard president stating emphatically that the university would not identify illegal aliens enrolled in the school. I wrote back to this supposed history scholar that it seemed absurd that Harvard could take tens of millions of dollars or more every year from the US government by way of research grants but thumb its nose at the laws of the very same government. How could a school like Harvard, with such a famous law school, simply decide which federal laws no longer applied to it?
The absolute ideological rigidity is reflective of the total refusal to accept any opinions beyond those that are approved. When Harvard Medical School came out with “birthing people”, its doctors knew that it could either state that women are the ones who give birth or bend the knee to the trans lobby and its supporters who will claim that a woman who claims to be a guy is really a man in every way. One thinks back to the Nazi period where judges, lawyers, professors, and others said and did things that were so obviously wrong, and today one might begin to understand their raw fear of being on the wrong side of the authorities. What happened to the professors who put their name to “100 Scientists Against Einstein”? They are probably in the same historical dustbin awaiting our 51 intelligence officers who lied and claimed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation so as to get rid of Donald Trump. Say you want tenure and you write research papers on how the world is not heating up. Do you think that you will get a permanent position at a traditional college or university? Do you think that a serious scientific journal will publish your research? Or say you pitch to Universal Studios a story of a black gay man who fakes an attack by Trump supporters, whom he actually has paid to harass him. You think that it will be funded and put on the silver screen? The Left brooks no dissent, and as such many of the formerly creative fields such as the sciences, movies, literature and the press are simply mouthpieces for whatever they are told is acceptable. It took a few stubborn people to finally bury Fauci’s nonsense of an animal source for Covid, which of course he wanted so as to wash his hands of having funded research that produced a virus that killed millions and destroyed the world economy. He does not want to be remembered as a white-coated Pol Pot, but history may simply put him in that category for his role in financing a lab whose safety standards would have embarrassed the Three Stooges.
When ideology controls, all of the mental faculties are of no importance. Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist by training, once again got on the trans bandwagon and claimed that one merely has to “even the playing field” so as to allow men pretending to be women to compete against real, biological women. How will they do that? Give the women a 30 meter head-start in a 100 meter race? Tie one of the guy’s hands behind his back? If Tyson were to be intellectually honest and admit that guys who claim to be gals have huge advantages in VO2, muscle mass, strength, and stamina, he will find himself shunned by his friends and colleagues. Claiming that one could be 80 percent male or female, depending on how one feels when getting out of bed is less dangerous for his name, career, future earning potential, and standing than coming out and saying that men and women are different and one cannot move from one group to the other, something patently obvious by any cursory biological analysis.
So what do the American people want? They know that they are being lied to about Biden’s health, his innocence in raking in millions from foreign clients, the border being under control, the economy being outstanding, China being a benign foreign power, and about trans being real. But will they demand that their politicians tell them the truth? Is it easier to just get along with whatever ideological nonsense is being peddled, or will the American people demand truth from their leaders, as well as from Hollywood, universities, courts, and the press? Maybe woke is running out of steam, and enough people are angered to see illegal aliens crowding their cities and their daughters losing to a guy named Bruno now named Betty, or being told that inflation is a good economic sign. Maybe the electorate will throw out the liars and demand to be told the truth from the institutions around them. I hope that the tide is turning against the lefty ideologues. We’ll see in the next election what the American people want from their leaders—the truth or well manicured lies.
