There is no longer any connection between actions and outcomes for those on the “correct” side of our political divide. We thus have a country with “leaders” who are hypocrites and know that they will never be held accountable for their words or deeds.
There was a story of one of Sadaam’s sons who saw a very attractive woman and followed her. She and her husband were celebrating their honeymoon, when Sadaam’s offspring and his security guards entered the hotel room, threw the husband (who was an army officer) off of the balcony and left the younger Hussein with the widow. Obviously, Sadaam’s sons knew that they could do whatever they wanted, like stealing a Porsche and gifting it to the present king of Jordan. When one has power, actions and consequences rarely meet. Only the US army was able to finish off Uday and Qusay with a missile.
Anthony Fauci recently came back into the national consciousness and again pushed mask usage. When confronted with studies showing zero efficacy in masking during the pandemic, he made one of the strangest scientific statements I can remember. Yes, yes, masking did not work well but at the individual level, it did offer a higher level of protection. Does he have a paper to support such a statement? If masks worked at the individual level, wouldn’t there be strong data for large collections of individuals? But all of the data show no difference between places of consistent mask usage with those where masks were not required.
Dr. Fauci can make such statements—as he did previously—because he knows that there is absolutely no risk in doing so. Rand Paul will not get him prosecuted. He will not lose his medical license, pension, or large patent royalties. He will still be welcome on MSNBC and CNN. When there is no price to pay for making wildly misleading statements, why not make them? He appears to have funded the research that produced the Covid virus. Will he ever face a legal reckoning for funding the Wuhan lab? Don’t count on it.
Dr. Fauci is only one of numerous Democratic or left-leaning Americans who seem to have Teflon running in their veins. Hilary Clinton destroyed 30,000 emails under Congressional subpoena, but she had no fear of being indicted or prosecuted. Joe Biden does not seem to be sweating his thousands of pages of classified documents partially parked next to his Corvette; no such luck for his foe, Donald Trump, who has been indicted for thought crimes, political crimes, and the taking of documents, for which his predecessors were never bothered.
Joe Biden and his son—like the Clintons with their foundation—found away to monetize the position of vice-president. Millions flowed into the Biden coffers and the elder Biden took care of Chinese, Ukrainian, and other clients for the money paid. Maybe the Republicans will impeach him, but he will not be removed by a Democratic Senate. His son almost got off scot-free if not for the questioning of an honest judge. Don’t expect your next set of license plates to be produced by any member of the Biden clan.
John Kerry and hundreds of his pals fly around in carbon dioxide-spewing private jets in order to lecture the little people about “climate change” and the risks of carbon dioxide release. No one will call them on the carpet, they will not be grounded, they will not lose whatever positions they hold in society, and they will pay no personal or financial price for their hypocritical actions. If they really believed what they were saying, they would not be flying or living in massive mansions on the supposedly rising oceans or getting around in big cars. They don’t believe a word of it, and they know that there is no personal price to pay for their facade of climate righteousness.
Our military leaders worry about abortions and pronouns while they cannot meet their recruiting requirements or prepare our fighting men and women to make war. Our stockpiles are being sent to Ukraine and are not being replenished fast enough should there be a need for them. Was anyone held responsible for the billions in equipment left behind in Afghanistan or the thirteen Marines needlessly killed during the helter-skelter exit from Kabul? Was anyone held accountable for the 9/11 attacks? Did one person lose his or her job? Not that I know of. When Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, two of Margaret Thatcher’s top ministers quit; they felt that the invasion was proof of their failure in their assigned jobs. That was a different time.
If, on the other hand, your political leanings are on the right, then parading in the Capitol could mean years in jail—something the BLM rioters who destroyed billions in property and caused several dozen deaths will never face. If your views are not considered correct, you might find some armed IRS or FBI agents outside your front door. Make noise on abortion or the sexually-explicit material taught to your third-grader, better have a lawyer on speed-dial. The FBI will have you on their radar.
The next Republican president will have to level the playing field. Either everyone gets prosecuted or nobody does. Seeing how they have hounded Donald Trump and many others on the right, the time will come to hold the FBI, DOJ and many government officials accountable for their illegal activities directed against their political opponents.
James Comey shared confidential material with a Columbia professor; when does his trial start? Several intelligence big shots lied to Congress and admitted to doing so; how many years of hard labor will they be facing? If Dr. Fauci and/or the vaccine manufacturers lied and caused physical harm or death, they too must be held accountable. Hilary Clinton is probably past the statute of limitations but if there is a case to be made against the Bidens, it must be made.
Justice cannot be a one-way street. This is neither vengeance or vindictiveness; this is bringing the Republic back into balance. Show that there are consequences for actions and maybe our political discourse will be more honest and balanced. Maybe our leaders will learn to take responsibility for their words and actions.
