Sarah Palin Considering Libel Lawsuit Against New York Times

Former Gov. Sarah Palin appears to be seriously considering a libel case against The New York Times. The Times published an editorial Wednesday night in which they revisited a conspiracy theory regarding the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in 2011. The shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, was inspired to attack Giffords after seeing a map published by Palin's political action committee pointing out electoral districts, the editors surmised. That theory has debunked time and again, yet the Times editors did not get the message, using that conspiracy as context for Wednesday’s shooting at the congressional baseball practice. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is still in critical condition after being shot in the hip, while four other people were also injured.

The Times has since issued a correction for their obvious error.

Yet, a journalist has suggested that Palin may have grounds for a libel lawsuit against the longstanding newspaper. According to her tweets this morning, she doesn’t think it’s a bad idea.

Should she pursue it?
