Democrats Are Soft on Crime, but Hard on Law-Abiding Citizens

Make no mistake: the soft-on-crime policies that Democrats support and enact are choices they willingly, knowingly, and repeatedly make. They know it's likely a criminal with a rap sheet a mile long will commit more crimes, but, as Massachusetts Judge Janet Sanders said, they'll 'take a risk' on giving a criminal a slap on the wrist. But the absence of law enforcement for violent crimes and property crimes does not mean the absence of law enforcement entirely.

Quite the contrary.

The easier Democrats are on violent criminals, the harder they are on law-abiding citizens forced to live under countless petty rules meant to criminalize our rights and usurp our freedoms.

That's something former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares noticed after Governor Abigail Spanberger — who does not allow Virginia law enforcement to cooperate with ICE — cracked down on the Virginia State Police (VSP) for failing to harass law-abiding Virginians exercising their Second Amendment rights.

What's even better is that there's a court order barring these background checks.

Democrats have made a conscious choice not to enforce laws against criminals. They call it 'public safety,' or 'criminal justice reform,' or 'equity,' but no matter the veneer they slap on the policy, the outcome is the same: criminals don't get punished. And that which is rewarded is repeated.

Meanwhile, they turn a laser-like focus on their political opponents. In New York, California, and other blue states, Democrats are gearing up to confiscate 100 percent of any payouts from President Trump's Anti-Weaponization Fund. They refuse to address fraud, especially in California, but magically find the time and the resources to confiscate money from people victimized by the government. As I noted earlier, that fund is open to everyone — Democrat, Republican, apolitical — to make amends for unjust prosecutions and other government overreach. I thought Democrats wanted criminal justice reform. I thought they liked reparations.

But I guess that only applies to their preferred constituencies.

There are myriad other examples of this, too. Daniel Penny was put on trial for restraining Jordan Neely on a subway car after Neely — a career criminal with mental health issues — was threatening fellow passengers. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's office charged Penny with manslaughter. Prosecutor Dafna Yoran, who charged Penny, once gave a reduced sentence to a Black man who intentionally murdered an Asian college professor. Yoran said she did so under the concept of 'restorative justice,' and gave the suspect ten years for manslaughter when he was originally charged with murder. Bodega worker Jose Alba was arrested on second-degree murder charges after Alba fatally stabbed a man who was attacking him. Alba had been stabbed by the man's girlfriend during the fight. Despite a clear-cut case of self-defense, Bragg threw Alba in Rikers and demanded $250,000 bail. Eventually, thanks to public outcry, the case against Alba was dropped.

America cannot survive when there is such a blatant two-tiered justice system operating. If you check the correct intersectionality boxes — you're poor, you're a racial minority, you're trans — you can rob, murder, assault, and defraud with impunity. The government will apologize to you and silence the people who expose your crimes.

But if you don't meet the Left's DEI criteria, you'd better not step one toe out of line. Democrats will drop the legal hammer on you. Abigail Spanberger likes illegal immigrants and resisting Trump, so ICE gets neutered in Virginia. Spanberger hates guns and gun owners, so they get targeted, even when a court ordered her not to.

"For our friends, everything. For our enemies, the law."
