The Flag Is Only 'Complicated' If You're a Democrat

Yesterday, we marked Memorial Day. It's a day to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of this nation. For Democrats, however, it's just another Monday where they might snag a good deal on a new mattress. Or a day to lionize a career criminal like George Floyd, an effective narrative spin that has 60 percent of Democrats and 40 percent of normies believing Floyd was a 'model citizen.'

No, I'm not joking.

For many, Memorial Day is a painful reminder of the loved ones they lost. I think especially of SSG Alan W. Shaw, whose wife posted a request on X asking people to visit his grave. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, DNI head Tulsi Gabbard, and countless others answered the call.

Like all service members who have died, whether in the line of duty or — like my father — of old age, the American flag holds deep and profound meaning. When my father died in 2020, he was denied full military honors thanks to COVID restrictions. In 2022, we finally gave him the proper service he deserved. I was handed his folded flag and saluted by the Navy members who honored him that June day. That flag flew with me all the way to Hawaii so dad could finally get to Pearl Harbor. It sits in a place of honor at my brother's house.

I also have the flag from my late father-in-law, also a Navy veteran. I inherited that when my ex-husband died in 2024. It also means something to me, and to my sons, who have a piece of their grandfather with them.

When I attend public events and someone sings the national anthem, I am moved. Each and every time. I know how fortunate I am to live in this country, under that flag. There is nothing complicated about it.

But, then again, I am not a Democrat.

"I often think, when reclaiming symbols, I think about the American flag," Talarico said. "The American flag is such a complicated symbol for most of us. In many ways like Jesus, like the cross, it's been co-opted and, in some ways, its true meaning has been betrayed."

The flag stands for freedom, individual liberty, and the rule of law. All things that are antithetical to Democrats like Talarico. But they're the very things that allow the Democrats to live well, speak freely, and get rich off the backs of their fellow Americans. It's only been 'co-opted' if you don't like those things, and Democrats do not.

Instead, Talarico wants the flag to represent his radical, anti-freedom agenda — the one that believes there are multiple genders, that God is nonbinary, that freedom of religion and speech are only for Leftists, and that we can magically control the weather if we all eat grass and tofu. He's only proud of the flag when it represents what he likes.

For the rest of us, that flag is the banner under which countless men and women went to war, sacrificed, and died. It's the enduring symbol of their sacrifice, and a reminder that the price of freedom is very, very high. It's something to be proud of, on Memorial Day, as we celebrate our 250th anniversary, and every day.

It's not complicated. Not at all.
