Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has decided to wade into the controversy surrounding the WNBA and its seeming willingness to allow men to compete in the league by declaring for the draft.

Kanter Freedom’s bold announcement comes after Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham faced the wrath of the progressive left and WNBA players and coaches who opposed her stance on men in women’s sports. Cunningham has been subjected to jeers from WNBA fans and publicity stunts like that of Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, who wore a shirt with a message stating that “trans kids belong.”

Some WNBA players, like Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams, have come out in support of the idea of trans players entering the league. Kanter Freedom’s decision to actually put his name forward as a prospect, however, is likely to garner significant backlash from the WNBA’s players.

Kanter Freedom was picked third overall in the 2011 NBA draft. He is largely known as a journeyman role player who clashed heavily with LeBron James over James’s tacit support for Communist China.

The 2027 WNBA Draft will be held in April of next year.
