Greg Gutfeld hates debating Democrats, but not for the reason you think.

On Thursday, Gutfeld argued that conservatives debating Democrats, especially members of the Democratic Socialists of America, are often confronting people who advocate systems that have already failed and premises that collapse under real-world scrutiny. Rather than spending all their time relitigating socialism’s failures, he said, conservatives should make the affirmative case for what they offer, and what they have already achieved.

He says he “resents” having to debate Democrats over ideas like socialism that have been tried and failed for generations.

It’s devouring the Democrat Party alive but that’s their problem to deal with, not the Republicans’.

"I resent having to debate over ideologies that have not only failed, but killed millions. That we're having this discussion is offensive. So I feel like we should leave this with the Democrats, you know, and focus not on articulating a message, but implementing the message that we have. Because if you think about it, all the major fronts, we've won," Gutfeld explained. 

The opposition has retreated on the trans agenda, the climate agenda, which we don't hear about, the open border agenda. And for good reason, their reality got a cold shower. Men can't be women. Fossil fuels are necessary. A country can't survive without a border. Crime is not a lifestyle of the oppressed. And your identity doesn't matter when you're making me a smoothie.

"So all of these destructive beliefs were beaten, but still they're alive and twitching in the DSA," he added. "And if they don't put that out, the Democrat party's toast. So that's their battle. It's not ours."

Much of what Gutfeld said may be true, but this is still conservatism’s battle to lose. The economic preferences of socialism are winning elections, and conservatives cannot afford to stand by and watch that trend play out. November will test whether voters, backed into a corner, choose the DSA’s promise of government control or a Republican alternative rooted in freedom and opportunity. 

That is why conservatives must make the positive case for what they offer instead. The Trump administration can point to tax relief, deregulation, and an agenda designed to reward work, investment, and domestic production; the administration says these policies have supported real-income growth and stronger output. But the broader message must be bigger: trust people to innovate, create, build, and solve problems without waiting for Washington’s permission.

It is the same message that made Ronald Reagan a political giant nearly 50 years ago: prosperity built from the bottom up, not imposed from the government down. That vision can still resonate. Conservatives simply have to be willing to say it clearly, defend it confidently, and offer it as a real answer to the frustration that socialism exploits.
