With the midterms less than two months away now and eyes turning toward 2028, I find it absolutely fascinating to see what Democrats will run on as a party platform. And when I say "fascinating," I mean in the same way it's fascinating to watch two trains barreling toward one another on the same track.
Disaster will ensue.
My only hope is that those trains collide and derail before the Democrats take the rest of us with them, because so far the Democrat platform for 2028 seems to be a) persecute President Trump, b) weaponize the federal government against Trump supporters, c) persecute President Trump, d) destroy the foundations of this nation, e) persecute President Trump.
But Ted Lieu added a new plank to the platform, and it's a doozy, too. Lieu says the next Democrat candidate must vow to return the White House, the Kennedy Center, and Washington, D.C. itself to their pre-Trump state.
My prediction: No Democrat running for President will win the primary or general election without first committing to restore the White House, Kennedy Center and Washington, DC to pre-trump.

But will it? Because, from where I sit, vowing to return the nation's capital to a run-down, dysfunctional, crime-ridden hellhole to "get Trump" seems to be the exact opposite of what people want. Aren't Democrats the ones who supposedly care so much about "affordability" and making life better for Americans? Aren't they the ones who blame President Trump's war in Iran for high gas and grocery prices (ignoring the fact that things were much, much worse under Biden, of course)?
They sure are.
So how does, as Philly DA Larry Krasner suggested, blowing up the Trump White House ballroom — which isn't funded by taxpayers, by the way — address affordability? How does that make my life here in Wisconsin any better? How does that lower the cost of my gas or my groceries? How does that improve education?
It doesn't, of course.
My prediction is this: Democrats will bloviate about destroying the ballroom and "restoring" D.C. to the s**hole it once was, but they won't actually do any of it. They'll like and use the ballroom; they'll keep Trump's policies in place in D.C., and they'll take credit for his successes. Make no mistake, they absolutely plan to spend 2028 and beyond hounding President Trump, members of his administration, and his supporters. In fact, I think that if Democrats win the White House in two years, it'll make the weaponization of the Biden era look like a picnic.
That also means President Trump will issue sweeping pardons for everyone who even so much as looked at the White House during his second term, because he knows how to play and beat the Democrats at their own game. But that's not the point here. The point is the Democrats, as a national party, have become so unglued that they think the best way to govern is to vow to make you live with public decay, unfettered crime, and failing government infrastructure.
It's a diseased way of thinking, but then again, Trump Derangement Syndrome seems to be chronic and terminal.
