Los Angeles County has just filed a lawsuit against State Farm, alleging the insurance giant has failed to pay claims and engaged in other questionable practices. The suit stems from the 2025 wildfires, and it's likely to make the bad insurance situation in California worse, not better.

Here's more:

Los Angeles County announced Monday that it had filed a lawsuit against State Farm General after hundreds of victims of last year’s devastating wildfires complained that their claims had been delayed, denied or underpaid.

The lawsuit alleges that State Farm engaged in illegal and deceptive business practices that kept victims of the Palisades and Eaton fires from receiving what they were entitled to under their policies.

County officials said their investigation into the complaints found unreasonable delays in processing claims, as well as “systematic underpayments.”

Officials said they also found that State Farm had illegally suppressed smoke damage claims.

“Survivors are just asking for what’s right,” L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents Altadena, said at a Monday news conference.

Bob Devereux, a State Farm spokesman, said in a statement that the company would respond to the lawsuit through the legal process.

“State Farm General strongly disagrees with Los Angeles County’s characterization of our wildfire claims response,” he said.

State Farm already stopped writing new policies in California three years ago, and in 2024 it did not renew thousands of policies in high-risk ZIP codes. After the 2025 wildfires, State Farm also got a 17 percent rate hike.

This makes insurance even more expensive for California homeowners and — if State Farm ends up not renewing policies or pulling out of the state entirely — leaves few options.

That includes the California FAIR Plan, the last-resort insurer. Allstate is also not writing new homeowner policies in the state, and for the few insurers that remain, premiums and deductibles have skyrocketed. The limited insurance options and high rates mean that mortgages are more difficult to get, too, as mortgages require insurance.

Good work, Democrats.

How's the rebuilding going, by the way?

Unfilled reservoirs, refusal to do basic forestry management, and the unwillingness of Los Angeles officials to clean up the homeless encampments or jail criminals, that often start wildfires are all reasons why 2025 was so bad. But Democrats do not take responsibility for their failures. They blamed the wildfires on climate change and are now attacking State Farm.

California is a failed state, and Los Angeles County is a disaster.
