Oh, the irony. After electing and reelecting Karen Bass as mayor of L.A., the film industry is going to get the government they voted for, good and hard. Bass is going to turn Hollywood into West Detroit, a once-wealthy and good city ruined by progressive politics and run by terrible people.
Bass is trying to take credit for Sony reopening the historic Cinerama Dome, it seems.

"We can't wait to welcome the next generation of filmgoers to enjoy the magic of the iconic Cinerama Dome," said Mayor Bass. "I brought City departments, developers, and industry leaders together today to show our commitment to getting this historic restoration over the finish line ... "
"Mayor Bass has spent her career supporting film and television production, protecting the entertainment industry, and strengthening Hollywood's economic recovery."
So while the media try to give Bass credit for this, actress and filmmaker Justine Bateman just dispelled that narrative. She shared a story of how Bass not only doesn't understand the film industry, but how she proposed a jobs solution that would absolutely ruin film production in the city.

"At one point she asked that film productions give jobs to homeless people—that this 'would really help her out.' What kind of idiot walks into a room of mostly out-of-work people, in an industry that is collapsing upon itself, that does productions with limited time and money where a mistake from an inexperienced worker can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and suggest that unskilled, perhaps drug-addled, clueless homeless people should be employed instead of qualified guild members?" Bateman wrote.
"This was just one of the many aspects of the film business of which she was utterly ignorant. It’s a complete fabrication that she “has been fighting for the film industry for most of her career.” Complete fabrication."
So Bass wanted to put mentally ill, drug-addicted, homeless people on film crews. What could possibly go wrong?

We'll never know who actually won the Mayor's race, it seems. Because the shady ballot dumps that went 100 percent against Spencer Pratt, which raises a lot of questions about exactly what happened in that election.

And it's ironic that Bass is concerned about fast-tracking the building of this cinema while not fast-tracking the rebuilding of the houses burned in 2025's wildfire, thanks to the gross incompetence of Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom.
