Speaker Mike Johnson: Democrats Risk Destroying America’s Judicial System

In the wake of last week’s stunning “guilty on all counts” verdict in the Manhattan sham trial of former President Donald J. Trump, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is sounding alarm bells, warning the future of American jurisprudence is on the firing line at home and abroad.

On Salem Media Group’s THIS WEEK ON THE HILL program airing this weekend, Speaker Johnson doesn’t mince any words: “This is what you expect of a Third World country, a banana republic, not the United States…the premier legal system in the world which has been the model and envy of everybody for so long.” He added, “The Democrats are so desperate because they know President Trump is crushing Joe Biden in the polls that they have relegated themselves to this: they’ll risk the destruction, the credibility of our entire system of justice. And there is nothing less than that at stake here.”

Johnson also told Salem Radio Network host Hugh Hewitt that Republicans—and Donald Trump himself—broke all fundraising records in the hours after the guilty verdicts were unsealed in New York City. But he warns that Democrats and their acolytes in the mainstream media are only beginning to ramp up their anti-Trump messaging, and our 45th (and potentially 47th) president cannot expect any “fair” treatment in the media.

“Oh, no. Of course, not. And they can drag this out, now, for another month before sentencing and then all the way through the conventions. That’s the game. That was the design. That’s what they wanted to do, call Donald Trump a ‘convicted felon,’ you know, try to attack his character all the way through this thing. They’re terrified because they know that he is beating Joe Biden in all the swing states, six of the seven when I last saw it. I’m on the ground in Ohio and Michigan this weekend and I’ll also be in Illinois. I’m telling you that even in blue states and swing states, President Trump already had the energy and the enthusiasm on his side. And I think this makes (election prospects)  better for our team.”

The Speaker’s views on the impact of the Trump verdicts were echoed on THIS WEEK ON THE HILL by U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) who added that the Left’s “masterstroke” was taking over the universities in the 1960s.  “So now they control all the colleges..but particularly colleges of journalism, of education and of law. They’re not graduating journalists…they’re graduating advocates for the left like Alvin Bragg and Letitia James who both ran for office literally promising they were going to get Donald Trump.”

Later in the newest episode of his THIS WEEK ON THE HILL program, Speaker Johnson told host Tony Perkins that he’s pressing forward with legislation to limit the reach of the International Criminal Court in the Hague after a prosecutor recently announced he is seeking an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, among others.

“This is a dangerous moment: you have international bureaucrats trying to engage in lawfare on an international scale to usurp the authority of democratic nations like ours and Israel.” Johnson warned that ceding any control to bodies like the ICC would be a disastrous mistake for the United States.  “To suggest the arrest of the Prime Minister of a country—Netanyahu—who is in the midst of a war to quite literally have his nation survive is madness.”

Johnson concluded that it is clear to him that the ICC prosecutor's action is a direct result of the Bien administration’s pressure on Israel to back off on its prosecution of the war against Hamas terrorists. That’s why his proposed sanctions are needed, Johnson believes.

Having survived an ill-timed and politically motivated effort to remove him from his position in Congress, Mike Johnson appears to have found a strong, pro-America voice that he is using loudly and often to stand in the gap between common sense American values and the liberal abyss being promulgated on so many fronts by Joe Biden and his minions.

This is shaping up to be a hot summer politically…and one the GOP needs in order to rally the troops as our November 5th national elections draw ever closer.
