During his first primetime address to the nation as president this week, Joe Biden proved what many of us warned about when he was running for America’s highest office: He is no moderate and perfectly comfortable with big government telling citizens what they’re allowed to do with their lives.

For nearly one year, the science on Wuhan coronavirus has shown us that gathering outside and distanced from others is safe. We’ve been told that mask-wearing indoors without social distancing is effective. Despite promising to “follow the science,” President Biden still isn’t willing to up the government’s pandemic power and give Americans full hope they can go back to normal.

“I need you to get vaccinated when it's your turn or when you can find an opportunity and to help your family, your neighbors to get vaccinated as well," Biden said. "If we do our part. If we do this together, by July the 4th, there's a good chance you, your families and friends, will be able to get together in your backyard or your neighborhood and have a cookout or a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day. That doesn't mean large events, with lots of people together, but it does mean small groups will be able to get together…After this long hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation, but we begin to mark our independence from this virus.”

"The more people are fully vaccinated, the CDC will continue to provide official guidance on what you can do in the workplace, places of worship, with your friends, as well as travel," he continued. “In the coming weeks, we will issue guidance on what you can and cannot do when fully vaccinated.”

What you can and cannot do when fully vaccinated. Essentially, get vaccinated, or else.

What an astonishing statement. We’re supposed to live in a free country, and yet the president of the United States is telling Americans whether they can grill out, in small groups, in their private yards and only after they’ve been vaccinated. His statement is delusional and completely out of touch with reality.

For months, Americans have been gathering with close friends and family at their homes. Right now, airplanes are packed full of unvaccinated Americans with no social distancing. Florida has been open for months, South Dakota never closed down. Texas and Connecticut just lifted all restrictions.

Not to mention, while Biden was happy to lecture the American people about “doing their part” in order to somehow earn the freedom they were born with, he didn’t do the same for thousands of illegal immigrants pouring into the country — hundreds of whom have tested positive for the virus and traveled on crowded buses to different parts of the country. Your unvaccinated backyard barbecue might be a “super spreader” event, but don’t mind illegal immigrants knowingly spreading the disease.

But Biden does get some credit. His Independence Day reference is fitting for the year we’ve been through, but don’t wait until July 4 to free yourself from the burden of overzealous government bureaucracy and tyranny.
