Following the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Americans have been searching for solutions on what could have been done to stop the shooting and how to prevent the next one. Sadly––but unsurprisingly––that group does not include Democrat politicians.

Of course, it’s common for Leftists to call for more regulations on guns when mass shootings occur. But putting aside whether gun control would work in preventing more mass shootings, these Leftists seem to have no issue politicizing these tragedies for their own ideology, without even pretending to care about a solution.

Take, for example, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke, the failed Senate and Democrat presidential candidate now running for governor of Texas. During a press conference held by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott the day after the Uvalde shooting, O’Rourke crashed the stage and yelled at the panel, shouting: “[T]he time to stop the next shooting is right now and you are doing nothing. You are offering us nothing. This is totally predictable when you choose not to do anything.” O’Rourke was then escorted from the event by law enforcement, but he got his viral moment to pitch for the Leftist position on the eventual banning of firearms.

That day as well, in a detestable action that further showed the Left’s true indifference to protecting children, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), blocked legislation promoting school safety practices. The bill, known as the Luke and Alex School Safety Act, would have required the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to establish a clearinghouse on the best practices for school safety by consulting with education, justice and health officials, according to the Epoch Times. The legislation is named for Luke Hoyer and Alex Schachter, victims of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, in 2018. Both Hoyer’s and Schachter’s parents have endorsed the bill.

“It’s pretty simple,” Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) said on the Senate floor that day. “It just creates a clearinghouse of information of the best practices for school safety. It ensures that parents, teachers, school officials, and other stakeholders have input into what those best practices are. It doesn’t allow the clearinghouse to mandate any school to take any certain action. Maybe most importantly, it publishes the available grant programs and federal resources available for school safety.”

But when Johnson asked for unanimous consent for the legislation––which would have allowed it to pass with no recorded vote––Schumer blocked the request, claiming that “hardening schools… would have done nothing to prevent” the Uvalde shooting. Schumer added that he would add the bill’s language as an amendment to a bill he supports, but only if Republicans voted for it. Of course, Schumer’s bill, called the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, is what he calls “gun legislation.”

Schumer’s bill, which would require the domestic terrorist components of the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to both report jointly on domestic terrorism and to form “an interagency task force to analyze and combat white supremacist and neo-Nazi infiltration of the uniformed services and federal law enforcement agencies,” is obviously unpalatable to Republicans, and rightfully so, considering how the Biden administration has habitually used government agencies to target its political opponents.

In addition, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has similarly said that President Biden does not “believe in” proposals to harden schools.

Regardless of one’s position on gun control, why would anyone oppose the common-sense idea of protecting our schools? According to the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), since the year 2000, there hasn’t been a single case of someone being harmed or killed in a shooting between 6AM and midnight at a school where teachers carry guns.

But that is precisely the point––Leftists hate you and care only about one principle: maximizing their own power.

Vote accordingly.
