There are always stories that make you shake your head at what the political left has become; stories of stupidity or just random “WTF?” moments where you can’t believe you’re a member of the same species as they are. It’s unclear how two groups of people can look at the same things and come away with completely different messages or lessons, but it happens all the time. Sometimes it’s sad, others frustrating, and then there is the story about how climate change is impacting trans hookers in Indonesia.

Yes, you read that right, the exact headline reads, “How climate change is hitting vulnerable Indonesian trans sex workers.”

It’s not a joke to say the left makes everything about race or climate change or whatever their cause of moment happens to be. Ok, it is a joke, but it is also true. When I saw that headline I knew I had to read the story, I knew I had to bookmark it, if only to prove to future generations that it really was written by human beings and published by a news outlet. Well, ok, it was published by the Independent, but still, they consider themselves to be news.

There are many great nuggets of comedy throughout the piece, and it is full of the typical claims of how one group is “hit harder” by something that, if real (it’s not), is hitting the whole planet at once. But, either out of racism, sexism, or transism (or whatever they call it), somehow the weather is targeting these favored groups. Who knew the weather had so much time on its hands to indulge in bigotry?

“Indonesia is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and trans women, who tend to face more stigma and marginalisation than trans men or other LGBTQ+ Indonesians, are also among those hardest hit by extreme weather,” the story reads.

That damn, hate-filled weather.

The argument, to the extent they have one, is about how it supposedly rains more in a place with a “rainy season,” and that makes it harder for men pretending to be women to sleep with men looking to sleep with men pretending to be women to get money for that sex. I know that sounds stupid, but that’s only because it is.

The funniest part of the whole thing, oddly enough, is not how the author pretends men are women, but how they pretend “extreme weather” is transphobic. Oh, they don’t say it, but it’s there.

Also funny is how all the “trans women” they write about in the piece have all moved on to other jobs, so they aren’t “sex workers” at all.

The story reads, “That’s because many trans women, like Patiha, are shut out of the formal economy and survive as buskers and sex workers, occupations that rely on them being able to solicit clients outdoors.” Then, later, they write, “Patiha has sought alternative opportunities. In 2021, she joined an entrepreneurship programme with Bandung-based NGO Yayasan Srikandi Pasundan, which focuses on empowering transgender women.”

How can it be that an economy “shuts out” these people, but for the past 3 years one of the people they chose to highlight has been doing other things, things they told us were no available to them. So weird, right?

In fact, all of the “trans hookers” they write about are no longer hookers, making their argument pointless and their lament about how rough they have it completely false, or – to put it in layman’s terms – a lie.

But a lack of truth being on their side has never stopped the left before, ever…on anything. They don’t let reality stand in the way of a good story, either domestically or overseas.

The story concludes with, “Patiha launched a cake-making business that same year, employing three trans friends when orders stacked up. She also started making and selling her own perfume last December.”

So, while the entire point of the story about climate change is rendered completely irrelevant and none of the “victims” are victims of anything, other than untreated mental illness, it at least works out for them in the end. If only the same could be said for the rest of us and the non-stop assault those same people are committing on the rest of us.

No funny story about rain hurting hookers who aren’t hookers in a country that oppresses them where they aren’t being oppressed is going to change that. But at least we can laugh about it.
