I wish I could swear here, because the better way to end that headline is to say “and other no post-digested food waste things.” But I can't, so I won’t worry about it and will simply proceed as normal. And National Public Radio will proceed as normal too. Well, normal for them, anyway. By which I mean they will continue to operate as a left-wing organization advocating for the policies of the Democratic Party.
Cynical, I know, but accurate. The reality of NPR (and PBS, for that matter) is they are taxpayer funded progressive propaganda. As interesting as the “confessions,” so to speak, of a long time NPR editor were, and they were interesting, they were the equivalent of a child realizing the Sun always rises in the east. Sure, it’s a revelation to them, but everyone else has known it forever. A good parent pretends to be shocked, then breaks the news to the kid while expressing pride that they’d figured it out on their own.
With NPR, there is no pride in recognizing this taxpayer funded smear of half the country for what it is, only anger. That it exists is fine – MSNBC exists and is orders of magnitude worse – the problem is we pay for it. We pay for it by force, by threat of prison, but we pay for it nonetheless. It’s like being forced to pay for the bloodying of your nose every day.
When the story of the new boss at NPR broke, people on the right pretended to be shocked. “NPR’s new CEO Katherine Maher haunted by woke, anti-Trump tweets as veteran editor claims bias,’ read the headline in the New York Post.
I can assure you, she is not “haunted” by any of it, at all. Her tweets were public, and still are. Anyone “haunted” would have deleted them months ago when they were up for consideration for the job, not months after they’d gotten it.
Maher was hired in January, not just now. That means NPR knew what they were getting 4 months ago, if not in December, and were perfectly fine with it. It wasn’t a point of contention, it was likely what helped close the deal.
I have no idea who else was considered for the position, but I promise you it was not a bunch of conservatives. Conservatives probably didn’t apply, and I’d go a step further and suggest most conservative editors with the experience to even be considered for the job were unaware of it.
The media has two completely different and separate worlds: right and left. They don’t cross over, they barely mingle, and they largely hate each other. They don’t hire people away to the other side very often.
They used to, at least a little, but not anymore. A friend of mine once turned down a job with a cable network I won’t name because they weren’t sure they wanted to be confined to that side of the aisle for the rest of their professional career.
That was just a couple of years ago. Before that, it happened without thought. A friend of mine managed to work at MSNBC and Fox News, not to mention for one of the biggest names in conservative media of all time, and they did so in the span of maybe 10 years.
Now, that person not only wouldn’t get the second job because of the first, they wouldn’t even get an interview. And if their first job discovered they’d even expressed interest in, or (God forbid) sent in a resume, they’d likely never see another promotion in their current position again. The prospect of switching teams is seen as disloyal, which is ironic because the second you become a drag or the company needs to cut payroll, you go from “family” to potential office shooter in need of being escorted out of the building by security.
The media landscape is a mess, NPR is just a visible manifestation of it, not something new or unique. Katherine Maher’s left-wing activism isn’t something to be “haunted” by, it was a selling point.
The only part of this story that should cause anyone outrage or a “haunting,” is the fact that NPR still exists, at least as a taxpayer funded entity. Democrats aren’t going to stop it because they’re not suicidal, and Republicans aren’t going to stop it because, like the smoker inhaling through the hole in their throats thinking the weed killing them is really their friend, well, they’re idiots.
