I’m all for holding the left to the very same standards they impose on everyone else, turnabout is the fairest of plays, after all. But there’s a difference between pointing out hypocrisy and engaging in stupidity. In the rush to “own the libs,” many people are making whatever issues they claim they’re trying to address much worse than they otherwise would be. Proving, once again, how the biggest obstacle conservatives face is their own inability to not step on rakes.

I am all in favor of pointing out how now House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) tweeted on February 16, 2018, “The more we learn about 2016 election the more ILLEGITIMATE it becomes. America deserves to know whether we have a FAKE President in the Oval Office. #RussianInterference.” I also like following it up with how he tweeted on October 14, 2022, “We will never bend the knee to the election deniers who poison our democracy.”

Jeffries is a horrible person, a racist and an opportunist – in other words: he’s a Democrat.

But sometimes, in the effort to fight the left, some on the right take the bait and go straight to the stupid. And engaging with the left in stupid ways only ensures we lose, because they control the stupid.

What’s so stupid now? Reuters reports, “Two of Donald Trump's staunchest allies in the U.S. Congress have introduced legislation aimed at expunging the former president's two impeachments, a legislative maneuver without precedent in U.S. history.”

Think what you will about the Trump impeachments, and both were wildly stupid and partisan, they did happen. Not only did they happen, they happened not that long ago and we all remember them. History, unless progressive leftists are writing it, is based on what actually happened. Yes, there is a lot of rewriting and interpreting what it meant, usually by Democrats trying to change it, but the things they try to spin actually happened. And Trump being impeached twice actually happened.

That’s not a value judgment on the merits of the cases, there was no merit to either, but just because you slept through your alarm going off doesn’t mean it didn’t go off.

The impeachments happened. They weren’t some part of a wild youth; things that went down before Trump turned 18 and, therefore, shouldn’t be known by the public because it might hinder future job prospects or his credit rating. He was impeached twice. You can’t pretend your way out of it any more than you can wipe from your memory that someone who was pardoned actually did commit the crime for which they were pardoned, even though the pardon wipes it legally clean.

The effort is being led by Representatives Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for reasons known only to them, but likely having to do with wanting to be considered as a running mate for Trump or some Cabinet position in a possible administration. Otherwise, these efforts serve zero purpose.

If either or both passed, everyone would remember Trump was impeached twice. It wouldn’t go away. History would just record this reminder in addition to it, and it would give Democrats the perfect “Republicans controlled the House of Representatives and THIS is what they chose to spend precious time doing” campaign issue.

Stop being stupid, Republicans.

It’s not that hard, or at least it shouldn’t be. There are plenty of wildly popular issues the House could be addressing. I understand that Democrats control the Senate and nothing good is going to get through there right now because of that, but you can get House Democrats on record on a lot of issues they don’t want to be on record for by holding votes on legislation popular with the American public. Use the time to expose how radical they are, and do so continually. It would also highlight how popular bills die in the Senate because it’s controlled by the radical left too.

Sure, you won’t be racking up legislative victories in the fight for liberty, but you aren’t doing that now. At least use the time before the election to draw contrasts that can be used in the election against your opponents, not wasting time doing things your opponents can use against you. Stop being stupid.
