Biden: Federal Vaccine Mandate ‘Is Not About Freedom or Personal Choice’

On September 9, President Joe Biden gave one of the most divisive and discordant speeches in modern American history.

During the speech, Biden announced “the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”

First, Biden’s announcement of a federal vaccine mandate is in complete contradiction to what he said about nationwide vaccine mandates late last year. In December, Biden said, “No I don't think it should be mandatory, I wouldn't demand it be mandatory.”

Second, Biden’s vaccine mandate is unconstitutional. The federal government does not have the authority to mandate vaccines. That power resides with the states, per the Tenth Amendment. This fact was confirmed by Jen Psaki, Biden’s White House Press Secretary, earlier this year, when she said, implementing a vaccine mandate “is not the role of the federal government.”

Third, the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate is anti-science because it ignores natural immunity.

To date,179 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. Moreover, 209 million Americans have received at least one vaccination shot. That means approximately 120 million Americans (including children under the age of 12, for which vaccines have not been authorized) remain unvaccinated.

However, according to the National Institutes of Health, about 100 million Americans have natural immunity to COVID-19. Forcing individuals with natural immunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination is not only completely unnecessary, it is possibly dangerous.

Fourth, Biden’s mandate is an all-out assault on personal liberty.

Biden said, “This is not about freedom or personal choice. It’s about protecting yourself and those around you.” He is absolutely wrong. Every American has the freedom to decide whether or not he or she should receive a medical procedure, including a vaccination. In fact, it is the epitome of freedom and personal choice.

Fifth, during his speech, Biden claimed, “We’re going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated co-workers.” That is absolutely absurd. Time and time again, the Biden administration has claimed that the vaccines are full-proof. So, why in the world would we need to protect the vaccinated from those who choose not to be?

Obviously, there is no need to protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated. The entire point of the vaccine is to protect oneself from a severe case of COVID-19. The vaccinated, by and large, have nothing to worry about concerning the unvaccinated.

In fact, in the same speech wherein he disparaged the unvaccinated as being potentially perilous to the vaccinated, Biden contradicted himself, again.

According to Biden, “as the science makes clear, if you’re fully vaccinated, you’re highly protected from severe illness, even if you get COVID-19.”

If this is the case, as indeed it is, why the vitriol towards the unvaccinated? As the president made clear, the odds of a vaccinated person suffering a severe “breakthrough” case is infinitesimally miniscule.

Therefore, claiming that the unvaccinated pose a risk to the vaccinated is unwarranted and untruthful.

Sixth, during his speech, Biden implored parents to have their children vaccinated, saying, “The safest thing for your child 12 and older is to get them vaccinated. They get vaccinated for a lot of things. That’s it. Get them vaccinated.”

Yet, the data tell a different story. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 300 teenagers have been diagnosed with Myocarditis and/or Pericarditis (heart inflammation) after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

Fortunately, it seems as if Americans, who for the most part abided by a plethora of government restrictions and rules for the past 18 months, have had enough.

For instance, on September 13, New Yorkers protested the vaccine mandate. According to one protestor, “I think what they’re doing in America, they’re taking away our rights about all decisions, medical decisions, we’re standing here we’re letting the government take over everything.”

Another protestor complained, “I should be able to make my own health decisions and make a decision that doesn’t affect my employment that doesn’t affect my right to go to a restaurant, or a Broadway play, a museum.”

Make no mistake, President Biden, who thinks a nationwide vaccine mandate “is not about freedom or personal choice” is clearly mistaken.
