"Riffed from the Headlines" is Townhall's daily VIP feature with coverage of the deeply flawed aspects of journalism in the nation. We'll look to bring accountability to the mishaps, malaprops, misdeeds, manipulations, malpractice, and manufactured narratives in mainstream media.

Pre-Written Field Reports – ABC NEWS / "THE VIEW"

  • The attempted hits on DeSantis keep coming, as do the misses.

Considering all the other news outlets keep getting things considerably wrong while going after Ron DeSantis, it is no surprise whatsoever that the gals on "The View" would follow suit. This time, it was converted conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin making an attempt during her trial run on the gab-fest. Her claim: That DeSantis was forcing campaign donors into monthly payment schemes as a form of scamming extra money out of their bank accounts.

This is what happens when you resort to bold but unsubstantiated claims on social media instead of actually doing research. As the governor pointed out, on his site, it explicitly states that it is an option available, twice in fact, and then a donor has to actively opt in themselves.

When she was called out for the prevarication, Griffin responded by supplying a link to a New York Times article – one that never even mentions DeSantis.

Low Octane Gas Lighting – MSNBC

Last night, on her once-a-week broadcast, Rachel Maddow dropped a truth bomb on her dedicated following. Merrick Garland released a memo that indicated he would not be openly pursuing candidates with any serious investigations due to election sensitivities. Adam Schiff and many on the left were despondent over the announced document release, which is actually a status quo position for the DOJ. Garland is essentially just repeating the position of the Department based on Bill Barr's own memo from years back.

Both Kinds of Standards – NBC / THE LATE SHOW

  • Despite the prior outrages, this worse behavior will be excused.

The decision has been handed down that the group of producers and writers from "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" who were caught trespassing in the Capitol weeks ago will not have any charges brought against them.

It might seem like a dose of double standards, considering how many January 6 figures were arrested for the exact same thing and held for months. It might seem like a dose of severe double standards to realize the same US Attorney prosecuting those J-6 trespassing charges is the one who dropped these charges.

Presentation Paradox – TEEN VOGUE

  • It would almost seem as if the gender acceptance is based upon their agreeing with you ladies.

Just consider briefly how many times during the abortion debate we have been lectured that men should have no say in the matter, given they cannot bear children. (This argument already starts falling apart with the fluid claims of who is considered a woman these days.)

But with this in mind, it becomes curious why the minds at Teen Vogue would base an entire article around select men who detail how their lives were improved when their female partners – that is, their uterus-equipped birthing individuals – got an abortion. So, suddenly these males are considered acceptable sources of opinion on the matter.

Pulitzer Prize Nomination – THE NEW YORKER

Just in case you are unfamiliar with the popular outdoor diversion that is Pickleball, it is a low-impact, low-cardio version of tennis played on a smaller court. It grew in popularity during the pandemic and has become widespread in its acceptance in parks across the nation.

The New Yorker decided to explore this phenomenon, with a nod to the game becoming a healing factor in the divided country.

Hell, if Wordle cannot do this, then I am dubious, but far be it from me to dismiss it outright. More easily dismissed is a nearly 7,000-word treatise on the game by Sarah Larsen.
