Bible Passages: Deuteronomy 4:44—11:32

Discussion Questions:

-- Why is the acquisition of wealth often a challenge to a person's spirituality?

-- What are some of the things Christians need to avoid in today's culture to live as God's holy people?

Food for Thought:

"You've got a hole in your heart where God's supposed to live. It's consuming everything that you're trying to put in it … your drive for business deals, for new boats. Everything you do is trying to fill that hole and the only way you're going to fill it is with a relationship with God."

Those words were enough to lead Wayne Huizenga Jr. down the path toward his salvation. The son of divorced parents, Wayne Jr. followed in his wealthy father's footsteps. He worked for his dad at Waste Management then Blockbuster Video where he amassed great riches. He had the best seats at the best sporting events in the country. He built a luxurious home and had a sport fishing yacht, but though he was happy, he was not satisfied. A sailor friend sat him down and talked to him about the hole in his heart and how to fill it.

After three years of attending a local church, Huizenga's life was transformed at a church service where, amid 4,000 other people, he accepted Christ. Though he contemplated a life in the pulpit, he believes he's right where God wants him to be. He says he's always been advised by incredible people whom he highly respects but knows that many of them will never "darken the doors of a church that are in this incredible business world … and that this is exactly where I need to be." He believes his mission is to share Christ with the very wealthy and very powerful of this country and that's why God granted his father the kind of wealth, power and respect he had. Those doors are now open to him to share the Gospel with those in positions of authority who don't know Christ.
