Discussion Question: Whose testimony inspires you to use every life circumstance as an opportunity for spiritual growth?
Food for Thought:
Football and spiritual growth. These topics are not necessarily mutually exclusive anymore. Tim Tebow, apart from the awards and championships he's amassed over the last several years, is a Christian who just happens to play football. Tebow is not a typical athlete. He prays before, during and after games. He funds schools for children in third-world countries. He participates in mission trips with his family. He also understands that he's a role model for thousands of young fans.
By all accounts, Tebow is the same person on the field that he is off the field. During the 2008 NCAA championship game, he etched "John 3:16" in his eye black (a black under-eye coating used to shade a player's eyes from the sun during a game). Following the win, 92 million people searched the verse online. The NCAA responded by banning messages in eye black. The move, referred to the "Tim Tebow Rule" in the media, did not deter him. "It just goes to show you the influence and the platform that you have as a student-athlete," Tebow said. "… I have a platform, and I'm determined to use it. God gives us all a platform."
