While the Democrats at the Chicago lovefest paint Donald Trump and Republicans as crazy, regular Americans want normal, period.
It’s a funny thing in Judaism. Religious Jews who wear traditional garb, learn Torah and perform the commandments are often called “ultraorthodox”. Two hundred years ago, Jews doing the same things and living the same lives were called something else: simple Jews. It reminds me of an experience I had in a local pharmacy a while back. I was tasked with picking up that which one would describe as a women’s hygiene product. As I was looking through the offerings, I found one that was described as “ultra normal plus.” I started with normal. I can understand normal. But “ultra normal”? It’s more normal than anything has ever been normal in this product line ever! But just to make sure that the point is driven home, they added "plus." How you add something to normal and still keep it normal is something that all of my academic training has never answered.
If a being landed from Mars and took up a seat at the DNC, it would come to the conclusion that there is a sick group of Americans called Republicans and they are led by a psychopath named Donald Trump. They are against everybody. They hate women, they hate gays and something called “trans,” they certainly hate blacks, as the ultrawealthy Obamas reminded everybody. They hate science, they hate the great economy and crime-free cities that Democrats provide. In short, these Republicans are horrible extremists who should be kept as far away from the levers of power as is possible.
But the reality is quite different. The Democrats are running a freak show, where pro-Hamas protesters join ersatz “trans women” to promote the total destruction of the southern border of the lone superpower in the world. They scream, “Burn this country down”—the same country that has given them every creature comfort that they enjoy. The Democrats, having nearly all of the power of the media, paint themselves as the new “ultra normal plus” of American politics and Republicans and normal Americans as fringe loonies—or in their own words, “clingers,” “hangers-on,” “deplorables,” and the like.
But what do regular Americans want? Ultimately, like the religious Jew who lives today in a modernized version of the life of his great, great grandfather, Americans want normal. And this may be the last stop on this train to get it. One can see in England that regular British are in a losing last gasp effort to have a functional England not overrun but immigrants who oftentimes hate their host country. The regulars are being arrested for internet activity, they are being rounded up for marching for their country, and they are being sent to jail for the crime of putting up posters saying shocking things like, “It’s okay to be white.” One can either laugh or stand in shock with regard to what’s going on in the UK, but that show is on its way to the US unless the circus is stopped now. What do Americans really want? Let’s take a look.
*An Affordable Life. Historically, the most important metric for measuring economic success was how many people rose to a higher standard of living. China and India have moved literally hundreds of millions of their citizens out of rural poverty and into a middle class life of having a car and an air conditioner. They refuse to join the climate agreements because moving citizens into a better life is still a top priority for them. Americans want to be able to afford groceries and gas. This does not seem like a big ask, but after Covid and the supply chain snafus that followed, prices have gone up and never come down. People used to get by when gas and food were cheaper. I remember buying 60 eggs at Costco for $5. Those days need to come back. Americans want to have an affordable life where they can live well with the income they have.
*Safety of Children. The left has gone full pervert. They push little children towards drag queen story hours, talking about trans, and graphic discussions of sexual organs. They have pornographic material in school libraries. Parents want their children growing up learning the three R’s and not being exposed to topics that either don’t belong in a school setting or are appropriate for teenagers and not toddlers. Parents want to preserve the innocence of their children while there are those on the left who want them to know sexual topics shortly after leaving diapers.
*Safety of Home. The Democrats can obfuscate about crime statistics, but the facts are that crime is up and people are feeling it. Carjackings, smash-and-grab, violent assaults—people do not feel safe. Normal people want solid policing. They want the bad guys arrested and kept off of the streets. I am grateful for the years we went to New York when “stop and frisk” was still the police policy. We enjoyed Times Square, Central Park and a clean, safe subway. Wanting safe neighborhoods is not crazy. It is a most basic requirement for a functional society.
*American Leadership. The break and run from Bagram Airbase and Afghanistan followed by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and Hamas’ attack in southern Israel all point to failed US leadership. Fear of the US and its monstrous power should keep the bad guys in check. Americans are not interested in starting wars such as in Iraq. They are interested in preserving American interests and supporting proven allies. Russians and Chinese will not keep the shipping lanes open for the good of the world. For 80 years, that is exactly what the US Navy has been doing.
There was a story nearly 40 years ago. A very young girl accused her father of raping her. The police came and arrested the father and began to investigate the child’s claims. After a very short while, it was determined without a doubt that no rape had occurred. Apparently, the child had heard the word and used it against her dad. The Democrats can call Donald Trump and those who support him any names they choose. This is a privilege of a free country. But calling a person a name does not make it a reality. One could call Kareem Abdul-Jabbar “shorty,” but it would not change the fact of his extraordinary height. Normal Americans know what a normal America looks like, and they want to get to that point. They want a safe, successful, and prosperous country in which they have a stake and their hard work is rewarded and not held in contempt. They are not interested in incompetent DEI hires or mentally-challenged guys taking their daughters’ sports hardware. They want normal, and if there are enough of them voting this Fall, real normal they will soon get.
