Dylan Mulvaney Claimed It Should Be 'Illegal' to Misgender Him

Dylan Mulvaney, a biological man who uses she/her pronouns, is making headlines once again for comments made in a TikTok video titled "Adult Bullies" from October 2022 as a launch for his "Days of Girlhood" podcast. The resurfaced clip, tweeted by Oli London and shared by Matt Walsh, has millions of views and features the activist expressing that "I feel like that should be illegal" to misgender him.

"Like, the articles written about me using 'he' pronouns and calling me a man over and over again, I feel like that should be illegal," Mulvaney said in the video from last October, adding: "I don't know, that's just bad journalism."

Oh boy. If "bad journalism," which is a particularly subjective term, should be "illegal," there would be lots of members of the press in jail then. It also goes fundamentally against the First Amendment. This is even after Mulvaney claimed, "I understand freedom of speech and opinions," when he evidently does not.

David Hookstead very much spoke truth to power writing for OutKick:

There might not be anything more anti-American than calling for people to be locked up over speech. As long as you’re not attempting to hurt people, there shouldn’t be any limits on speech.

That’s kind of the entire premise of the United States of America. There’s a reason freedom of speech is covered under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

It takes a truly unhinged person to call for people to be arrested over the words they use. It’s an incredibly scary mindset. Being arrested over speech is something that would make Stalin and Mao very proud.

Do people really think allowing the government to slap on the handcuffs over speech is a good idea? Nobody who reads history does. That’s a fact.

Over at our sister site of RedState, Bonchie highlighted how Mulvaney's shocking claims relate to the overall larger problem with the transgender movement:

The clip is short, so perhaps there’s some broader context here. I’d struggle to imagine what Mulvaney could otherwise be saying, though, that would make what’s in the video acceptable. He clearly says that it should be illegal to call him a “he” in news articles like the one you’re reading now.

That’s not surprising because at the center of transgender ideology is the beating heart of authoritarianism. We are so far past the “we just want to be left alone” framing used during the gay marriage debate that it seems like an eternity ago. Transgender ideology is a completely different animal that demands absolute subservience and affirmation from everyone who interacts with it.

It’s not enough for a person to take a libertarian approach to transgenderism. Doing that still gets one labeled a bigot and shunned. Instead, the demand is that you must actively participate in promoting the lie that men can become women, women can become men, and that some have no gender at all. Never mind all the other nonsensical “genders” being claimed as reality.

The truth is, those calling Dylan Mulvaney a man are not “misgendering” him. They are gendering him based on an accurate reading of objective reality. Yet, we are quickly approaching the point where speaking the simple truth risks criminal liability. That’s already happening in places like the United Kingdom, and it’s just a matter of time before the scourge of criminalization reaches American shores.

Mulvaney also has quite the platform, and it keeps getting bigger and bigger due to partnerships with Bud Light, which has tanked the brand, but also female-centered brands and products like Tampax, Maybelline, Kate Spade, Olay, and Nike's workout clothes for women, including sports bras. For better or worse, such a platform means that people hear what Mulvaney has to say.

At least in the instance of Bud Light, the resulting conservative backlash, which included a boycott, has been successful. Their sales fell 17 percent, as Leah covered on Tuesday.

A Fox News report, referring to Mulvaney using "she" and "her" pronouns has more context on the video, which includes Mulvaney whining about negative attention:

In an October 2022 TikTok video titled "Adult Bullies," Mulvaney - a transgender woman who was born male – detailed the "hate" she received since launching her "Days of Girlhood" series online, telling followers, "I didn't know what I was signing up for when I started this."

...

Mulvaney told her followers that she found those articles to be "even worse" than the accusation started by "transphobes" that she was a "child predator."

"I'm reminding myself that those people actually feel like they're doing the Lord's work. They believe that their bullying actually is the right thing to do, and I'm the one to blame when I'm just over here trying to live my best life," Mulvaney said.

London also highlighted how Mulvaney returned to posting videos following "21 days of social media silence," tweeting out a more recent video where he's still as unhinged as ever. Mulvaney again plays the victim and seeks out attention, claiming he is the one people "dehumanize."
