Here's What Trump Said About the New York Knicks After They Won Their First Championship Since 1973

It might not have been the best Knicks game President Trump attended at Madison Square Garden. Game three of the NBA Finals saw the series return to the Garden, where Trump, whose friends are with Knicks owner James Dolan, attended, a first in presidential history. While the game didn’t go as planned, Trump still posted a nice message to Dolan and the Knicks after they won their first championship since 1973, besting the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in the NBA Finals.

Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!! What a year it has been but, even more so, what incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four - Maybe the greatest in the history of basketball. Also, tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Sure, the usual suspects caused a commotion over Trump attending, but NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was very supportive despite some Trump derangement. Even committed Trump critics, like Whoopi Goldberg, weren't going to miss it: Trump is a Knicks fan, a New York native, and deserved to be there. The San Antonio Spurs won 115-111 that game, marking the Knicks’ first loss in two months. They would later come back from a 29-point deficit in game four to take a commanding 3-1 lead and finish it off with a 94-90 win in San Antonio, which was poetic justice. In 1999, the last time the Knicks reached the NBA Finals, the Spurs won the championship in five games, clinching game five on our turf. The favor has been returned.

This was one of the most dominant playoff runs in NBA history. Besides being a Knicks fan, you knew Trump was going to say something. The next question is when they come to the White House.
