This month, Townhall reported that authorities in New York began preparing for a potential indictment of former President Donald Trump. The potential indictment surrounded alleged “hush money” payments made to Stormy Daniels in 2016.

As Spencer noted, on Trump’s platform, Truth Social, he asked his supporters to “protest” and “take our nation back” if he got arrested.

A Reuters poll published last week found that about nine in 10 respondents said they’d heard about the Manhattan DA’s case against the former president. The poll found that 54 percent of respondents, including 80 percent of Republicans and 32 percent of Democrats, believe that politics is the driving force behind the case against Trump.

In the findings, 70 percent of respondents, including half of Republicans, said it was “believable” that Trump paid Stormy Daniels for her silence during his 2016 presidential campaign. Sixty-two percent of respondents, including one-third of Republicans, said it was “also believable that Trump falsified business records and committed fraud.” The poll gathered responses from 1,003 adults, including 415 Democrats and 383 Republicans with a credibility interval, a measure of precision, of about 4 to 6 percentage points in either direction.

A separate NPR/PBS/Marist poll conducted by  showed that 56 percent of Americans think that the investigations into Trump are “fair,” while 41 percent believe the investigation is a “witch hunt.” This figure included 80 percent of Republicans. Twenty-nine percent of respondents in the survey said they think Trump did something “unethical but not illegal.” The poll surveyed 1,327 adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

In the survey, 92 percent of respondents said they were registered voters. Thirty-seven percent said they were Democrats, 33 percent said they were Independents and 29 percent said they were Republicans.

This month, South Carolina governor and 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley said in an interview with Fox News that Bragg (D) is pursuing “revenge” in his investigation against the former president.

“From everything I’m seeing from this New York district attorney is that this would be something he’d be doing for political points,” Haley said. “And, I think what we know is when you get into political prosecutions like this, it’s more about revenge than it is about justice. And I think the country would be better off talking about things that the American public cares about than to sit there and have to deal with some revenge by some political people in New York.”
