Before we get to James Carville’s prediction, just remember this is the same Democrat strategist who penned an op-ed in The New York Times ahead of the 2024 election with three reasons he was “certain” then-Vice President Kamala Harris would win. So you’d think he would take a more humble approach to his analysis but clearly that hasn’t happened yet.
On Friday, he spoke with Mediaite’s Dan Abrams about the Trump administration, telling the site’s founder that he believes it will experience a “massive collapse” in the next 30 days.
The comment came as part of his advice to Democrats about just sitting back and being quiet, calling out some progressives who have been too vocal lately.
“So you got a lot of Democrats who have been sort of yelling and screaming about a lot of these nominations, and in some cases, I think rightly so,” Abrams said. “And in other cases, I think it’s a little bit been a bit overwrought. But, you know, it seems that the angrier Democrats get, the more it feeds into exactly what Donald Trump and Elon Musk and some of these other folks want – meaning Fox News plays sound bites of Democrats heads exploding as sort of sport.”
“What I have said very publicly is that Democrats need to play possum,” Carville responded. “This whole thing is collapsing. It doesn’t need Elizabeth Warren and somebody screaming to pacify some progressive advocacy groups in Washington, which, by the way, I wish these people were just useless. They’re actually worse than useless, that they’re detrimental. And they never, ever learn to shut up. And so then this is what I believe. I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days - in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion.”
Carville went on to cite polling about Trump’s approval rating dropping and claimed it would be “easy pickings here in six weeks,” advising his party to “just lay back.”
“You literally think 30 days to six weeks, the Trump administration is effectively going to collapse in terms of public support?” Abrams asked.
“It’s collapsing right now,” Carville responded. “It’s over.”
According to RealClearPolitics, Trump’s average approval rating stands at 49.1 percent.

President Trump responded on Truth Social.

"The Democrats, run by broken down losers like James Carville, whose weak of mind and body, are going crazy, and just don’t know what to do. They have lost their confidence and spirit - They have lost their minds! We are going to have big WINS for our Country, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. It’s already happening, and will get bigger and better than ever before!"
