Tuesday was supposed to be Vice President Kamala’s big day with a rally in Washington, D.C., where she gave her final pitch to voters one week before Election Day. But instead, her boss took over headlines for pulling a page from Hillary Clinton’s playbook—this time calling Trump supporters “garbage.” As Matt covered, while that was bad enough, it was made worse by the media attempting to run cover for Biden and failing miserably. Biden’s X account also tried to do some damage control.
“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden said on X. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation.”
The problem is that the president is on tape saying what he did and it’s clear: “the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
While the Trump-Vance campaign have issued numerous statements about the comment, watch how the president initially reacted onstage to hearing what Biden called his supporters:

"That's terrible," Trump said. "Remember Hillary? She said deplorable, and then she said irredeemable, right, but she said deplorable. That didn't work out.

"Garbage I think is worse, right?" Trump continued, asking the crowd to forgive Biden because he doesn't know what he said.
"Honestly, he doesn't [know]," Trump added. "And I'm convinced he likes me more than he likes Kamala."
