Trump's National Security Spokesman Leaves White House After McMaster Departure

Michael Anton, President Trump’s National Security Council spokesman, is leaving the administration, the White House confirmed Sunday.

The report comes as Trump’s newly picked national security adviser John Bolton begins Monday. Bolton is replacing former national security adviser H.R. McMaster, whose last day was Friday.

"I will be forever grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to serve my country and implement his agenda," Anton said.

The White House spoke highly of Anton.

Trump has “nothing but good things to say” about him, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

“Michael is one of the smartest and most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with,” she added. "He has been more than a colleague, he is a true friend. Everyday I got to work with Michael was a good day and he will be greatly missed."

Anton will be heading to Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center to be a writer and lecturer, Politico reports.

“The education I received and the friends I made are — apart from my family and my country — the most cherished things in my life. I am delighted to be returning to my first love and second family,” he said.

Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn is excited to welcome him.

"I have known Michael for just about his entire adult life. His devotion to learning, his love of his country, and his talents of thinking, talking, and writing will make him a valuable colleague. We are proud to welcome him to the Kirby Center,” Arnn said.
