Pelosi Wonders if Pence Can Dine with Drag Queens, Scalise Teases Her About 'Crumbs' at DC Dinner

Lawmakers roasted each other and President Trump at an annual, bipartisan dinner hosted Tuesday evening in D.C. by the Washington Press Club Foundation.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) mentioned her upcoming appearance on VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” a reality show about drag queens competing against each other.

“Do you think Mike Pence is allowed to dine with a man in drag?” she wondered, referencing past remarks by Pence that he does not dine alone with women and avoids social gatherings with alcohol unless his wife is present.

Pelosi also mocked President Trump’s practice of abstaining from alcohol, something he does due to losing a brother to alcoholism.

“Trump is actually a teetotaler, he doesn’t drink,” she said. “Which is funny, because he really seems to like his White Russians."

Pelosi also poked fun at members of her own party, particularly Rep. Joe Kennedy's (D-MA) oddly shiny lips in his State of the Union response.

“I was so proud of Representative Kennedy on the night of the State of the Union," she joked. "He didn’t hold back. He proved that there’s only one difference between a Democrat and a pitbull -- chapstick.”

While the Democrats were able to get plenty of jabs in, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) teased Pelosi over her comment that the employee bonuses resulting from GOP tax reform were “crumbs.”

“Nancy, it’s always great to break bread with you,” Scalise said. “I promise next time not to leave so many crumbs.”
