Gold Star Mother Karen Vaughn: John Kelly's Words Were Beautiful and Brought Us Back to Reality

Gold Star mother Karen Vaughn lost her son, Navy SEAL Aaron Vaughn, after his Chinook helicopter was shot down on August 6, 2011 in Afghanistan. All 38 people on board were killed. Seventeen Navy SEALs died, making it the worst day for casualties in SEAL Team Six history.

I've had the honor of getting to know Karen a little bit over the years. I've seen her talk about the excruciating, broken and tear filled flight she took to receive Aaron's body when he came home for the final time.

During an interview on Fox Business Thursday, Karen gave reaction to remarks from General John Kelly at the White House, where he described what happens when a soldier dies on the battlefield and asked the press to keep Gold Star families sacred.

She called his remarks beautiful and expressed gratitude to Kelly for bringing those who were listening back to reality.

This is Aaron's grave in Arlington Cemetery.

If you missed Kelly's remarks yesterday at the White House, you can view them in full below. Every American should listen to what he had to say.
