Where Was California's Gun Control in Stockton?

A mass shooting in Stockton, California, has left four people — including three children — dead and ten others injured. As is always the case with these tragedies, the left pounced on the opportunity like a lion on a zebra to exploit the victims for their anti-gunner crusade.

The incident took place on Saturday at a child’s birthday party that was being held at a banquet hall. The perpetrators opened fire in the building where more than 100 guests were gathered for the celebration.

Law enforcement believes the shooting was a targeted assault, not a random attack. The shooter is still on the run as law enforcement attempts to find him.

Former Congresswoman and anti-gunner advocate Gabby Giffords called the incident “horrific” and said it is “painfully obvious” that “we need our federal leaders to act to stop gun violence.”

Others on social media argued that the United States needs more gun control laws to prevent these types of shootings.

The police have not indicated what kind of firearms were used in the shootings. Yet, that did not stop anti-gunners from blaming “easy access to high-powered firearms.”

Yet, this shooting isn’t getting the full-court press from the anti-gunner lobby as with other mass killings. You already know where I’m going with this, don’t you?

California has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. That’s why they aren’t going whole hog on this one.

In California, those purchasing firearms must go through background checks, wait for ten days before taking possession of the gun, and register their guns with the state. California has also banned “assault weapons” and “high capacity magazines” and requires permits for those who wish to carry concealed firearms.

Yet, the people at the birthday party were still not safe.

Recently, California’s legislature passed even more gun control laws, including background checks for those purchasing ammunition and strengthened red flag laws. State lawmakers are also pushing a measure to make it easier to prosecute people who use firearms to defend themselves. Under this law, those who shoot an assailant must prove they had ample reason to believe their lives were in danger and that they did whatever they could to prevent the shooting.

Basically, if someone breaks into your home, this alone isn’t enough to open fire, even if you have reason to believe they might violently attack you. Instead, you must flee and allow the criminal to steal your property.

But where were these gun control laws when a thug decided to shoot up a birthday party? As is usually the case, gun control laws did not prevent this crime — nor have they stopped other violent people from victimizing people.

This is the problem with gun control. It just doesn’t work — unless your objective is to make it harder for law-abiding people to defend themselves and their loved ones.

Yet, anti-gunners still insist that we should rely on the government to protect us from evil people. But again, where was the government when a gunman decided to target children at a birthday party? Nowhere to be found — until after the act had been committed.

This is why we have to keep pushing for the abolition of these laws. They serve only to make gullible people feel secure while actually making them less safe.
