'What Happened' is the Highest-Selling Nonfiction Book in Five Years

Apparently a whole lot of people want to know "What Happened" with Hillary Clinton's campaign--her new book has sold 300,000 copies since its release on September 12, making it the best-selling nonfiction book in the past five years.

Clinton’s book about her stunning loss in 2016 to Donald Trump sold more than 300,000 copies in the combined formats of hardcover, e-book and audio, Simon & Schuster told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The book’s hardcover sales of 168,000 was the highest opening for any nonfiction release in five years, according to NPD BookScan, which tracks around 85 percent of retail print sales. Mark Owen’s “No Easy Day,” a 2012 memoir about the killing of Osama bin Laden, sold more than 250,000 copies in its first week.

Of the 300,000 copies sold, 168,000 of those were in hardcover, which was also the highest total in the past five years. The remaining copies were either in e-book or audiobook form. So far, "What Happened" has sold about a thousand more copies than Clinton's last book, "Hard Choices." Her best-selling book, however, is her memoir "Living History," which came out in 2003.

Since the publication of What Happened, we have learned that Clinton nearly cried over SNL, she possibly cited a fake study, and that she thinks Bernie Sanders stole her ideas. (Sanders quite literally laughed off this claim.)

Currently, "What Happened" has a five-star rating on Amazon, although about 900 reviews were mysteriously purged from the site.
