It's a day ending in -y in Chicago, which means we've got another horrific story of a career criminal harming an innocent citizen because Democrats, including Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, refuse to put criminals behind bars.

This time, Garland Benton, a 45-year-old with a history of violent crimes, is accused of grabbing a 20-year-old woman in a Millennium Park garage as she made her way to work. He was only stopped by bystanders who heard the woman's screams.

Here's more from CWB Chicago, and we'll warn you it contains disturbing details of sexual assault:

Benton, a stranger to the victim, got on top of the woman, struck her in the face, pulled up her sweater, shirt, and bra, and began to sexually abuse her while holding her down as she screamed for help and scratched at his face trying to break free, said [Assistant State’s Attorney Karen] Crothers.

A 65-year-old female co-worker of the victim, arriving in the garage at the same time, heard the woman screaming that she was being raped and ran toward the commotion. She found Benton with his mouth on the woman’s exposed chest, trying to pull her pants down, Crothers alleged. The witness began striking him over the head with a water bottle. Benton turned and knocked the co-worker to the ground.

Two other witnesses heading to work also heard the victim’s screams and ran to help. They allegedly saw Benton near the victim, pulling up his own pants. Crothers said Benton repeatedly tried to push past them to get back at the victim when they intervened.

A fourth witness ran toward the screaming and found Benton on top of the victim with his mouth on her chest and his hand grabbing at her pants, Crothers said. That witness grabbed a wet floor sign and beat Benton with it, eventually pulling him off the woman, though Benton continued trying to charge back toward her throughout the struggle, according to Crothers.

Benton should never have been out free to prey on women. According to CWB Chicago, he was arrested in November in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on traffic offenses, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and failure to appear on a felony charge.

In 2020, Benton was convicted of public indecency in Cook County and sentenced to just under a year in prison. He was also sentenced to five years in prison that same year for aggravated battery on a CTA platform after he punched a young woman in the face repeatedly. The year prior, he was sentenced to five years in state prison for criminal damage to property after he damaged a Cricket Wireless store. He was also convicted of battery and aggravated assault on a CTA bus after threatening to kill the driver.

In 2016, Benton was sentenced to a year in prison for threatening to kill a law enforcement officer inside a courtroom at the Dirksen Federal Building, and in 2015, he was sentenced to 24 months' probation for hitting a 60-year-old woman on a CTA bus with a wooden crate. That probation was later changed to two years in state prison.

Despite these convictions and sentences, Benton was freed in Illinois. He spent time in Las Vegas, where he threatened to kill postal workers in 2022 and was arrested by Las Vegas police in 2024 for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and disorderly conduct.

The victim was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, and her coworker sustained a shoulder injury after Benton pushed her to the ground.

Democrats love criminals. They hate Americans.

It's that simple.

We would not at all be surprised if some prosecutor tried to punish these Good Samaritans for helping the woman.

As are the politicians who pass laws like the SAFE-T Act.

Yes. Most of this crime is preventable. These are repeat, often violent, offenders who do little, if any, time behind bars for their crimes.

But remember, Mayor Johnson said jailing criminals is both racist and unholy. He's perfectly fine with this abuse of women, because this 20-year-old is not Benton's first victim. He's assaulted other women, threatened law enforcement, and even threatened postal workers

Editor’s Note: The American people overwhelmingly support President Trump’s law and order agenda.
