It's Time to Ban the Abortion Pill

There are some things in life I regret. Most of those regrets will only be known to a small group of loved ones or me; some I will take to my grave. But one that I have spoken about publicly in the past is my regret that I once was "pro-choice."

Thanks to time, logic, and becoming a mother, my views on the issue have done an about-face.  And it's long past time to ban the abortion pill.

Live Action released a video that you can watch on YouTube, talking about coerced abortions and a press release talking about the devastation the abortion pill has brought on women:

Released in partnership with Stop Coerced Abortions, Live Action recorded personal accounts from four women. The first video, released today, shares Mayra R.’s story. She spent 17 years working for Planned Parenthood, leading as director of an abortion facility that performed 45 to 50 abortions per day. Mayra’s powerful testimony shares stories of abortionists pressuring women, the day she demanded all baby body parts be removed from a woman with an incomplete abortion, and even knowledge of a baby born-alive that was left to die.

“It’s pain, and it’s darkness, and it’s bloody, and it’s all about money. For 17 years, I helped no one, but I destroyed many.”

In the video, Mayra recalls pushing the abortion pill regimen (a combination of drugs, mifipristone and misoprostol) on women and then having them call her in dire situations.

“You're instructed to tell them, go ahead and grab it and throw it in the toilet and flush and don't look. (They say), But you told me it was just a blood clot, and I actually can see the hands, the feet, the face, and they will be crying in devastation. You told me I was just gonna feel like cramping like a period, but I think I'm dying. You have to dismiss them by telling them, just put your feet up, take Ibuprofen, lie down, and use a heating pad, you will be okay.

I've written about the abortion pill in the past. There's an 11 percent risk of serious side effects from the pill, far greater than the FDA's estimation. Under the Biden administration, COVID-era rules made the abortion pill readily available via the mail, with no guardrails or medical oversight.

That means men like Hassan-James Abbas, an Ohio surgeon, and Catherine Herring's husband, were able to obtain abortion pills online. Both men used them to try and induce abortions in their partners. Abbas was successful in terminating his girlfriend's pregnancy and faces felony charges. Herring's husband was not successful, but he too was arrested.

But something like this should never happen. The Democrats champion being the party of "choice," but they have just removed the most basic protections for women who choose to keep their babies, often against the wishes of the father.

Earlier this week, the FDA delayed yet again a study about the abortion pill and safety. It's a slap in the face to women and girls. But a study isn't needed. The solution is really simple: there's no good that comes from the abortion pill, and it's time to ban it.
