The House of Representatives is back in session this week, and it could lead to some major actions.
On Tuesday, the House is expected to pass a Senate-approved continuing resolution to fund the government through December, which will avoid a shutdown close to the midterm elections.
In addition, there are other votes that are possible, including a House Joint Resolution for a potential constitutional amendment to keep the Supreme Court at only nine justices. Some Democrats, like former Vice President Kamala Harris, have suggested expanding and packing the court, which currently has a 6-3 conservative majority, according to CNN.
Another resolution asks for the “condemnation and denouncement of socialism in all its forms, and for other purposes,” which could potentially put Democrats on the record on whether or not they are supporting the rising wave of socialist candidates running this election cycle.
The resolution also has a line inside that “calls for enactment of the SAVE America Act to ensure election security, increase public confidence in America’s voting system, and close loopholes in order to prevent noncitizens from voting in elections.”
Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) could also face a censure vote, as the House Ethics Committee’s investigation said he “violated House Rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces.”

Edwards said in a statement that “sexual harassment is a serious offense. One that deserves to be defined clearly, investigated fairly, and established by evidence—not inference or speculation.”
“I unequivocally reject the Ethics Committee's findings and its conclusion that I engaged in sexual harassment,” he added. “Those conclusions do not accurately reflect the facts or the full context surrounding these allegations. I sent this letter because every Member of Congress deserved to hear directly from me and have the opportunity to review the facts for themselves."
When it comes to the House Ethics Committee investigation into former Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, the committee is also asking for the House to hold two individuals, Hector Roos and Michael Joseph, in contempt of Congress because of “their failure to comply with duly authorized subpoenas.” Those contempt votes are planned for this week as well.
After this week's activity, it could be possible that the House does not return throughout the remainder of September, according to Punchbowl News.
