"That's a decision for a woman and her doctor."
"The government shouldn't get involved with the decision of parents and their trans kids. That's between them and their doctor."
How many times have we heard some iteration of that line of reasoning from the Left, in regard to abortion and the gender mutilation of children? Far too many to count.
It's Schrödinger's argument, of course. If you want to kill your unborn child or condemn your child to a life of sexual dysfunction and costly medical care, those decisions are left up to you and your doctor. But if you decide that you don't want to get the COVID vaccine or — in the case of the New York Amish community — vaccinate your child at all, suddenly the government is involved.
The Amish in New York are facing that, as the state is slapping fines on Amish schools for failing to follow Cuomo-era vaccine mandates. And now the Amish are threatening to leave New York.

“Have we gotten to a place where we aren’t going to make room for the Amish anymore?” Hiram Sasser, an attorney representing six plaintiffs in the case, Miller v. McDonald, asked.
“When you think of Americana—apple pie, fireworks—the Amish are on that list. They’re part of the American fabric. They’re a good litmus test of our religious liberty and our tolerance,” Sasser claimed to The Post.
In 2019, following a measles outbreak in an Orthodox Jewish community, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo rescinded religious exemptions for school vaccine mandates—making it the second state to ever do so, behind California.
Post-COVID, two other states, Maine and Connecticut, removed religious exemptions while West Virginia never had them.
New York state law requires kids to receive between 24 and 27 jabs to attend K through 12 schools, according to the DOH vaccine schedule.
According to Sasser, the Amish would only be able to pay the fines if the state confiscates their land.
Keep in mind this is happening as the Democrats allow tens of thousands of unvaccinated illegal aliens to flood over our borders and go into our communities. That's not the problem, though.
But those Amish? Watch out.
The New York Department of Health said the mandate is "to protect public health, keep New Yorkers and their families safe and enforce the law fairly and equitably." Yet I doubt all the illegals in the state have been screened and vaccinated before being dumped into New York schools.
There is nothing equitable or fair about this, and I say this as someone who largely disagrees with the Amish view on vaccines. My children were vaccinated, save for COVID (which I would never allow them to get), and vaccines have been a net good for the world. But the Amish, who live in isolated communities and in accordance with their deep faith are not a threat to public health. This is the state bullying a group it does not understand and does not like because it refuses to conform to this world.
And given how New York would trip over itself to protect the Amish if they were providing "gender-affirming care" to their children or lining up outside Planned Parenthood, the hypocrisy is glaring.
