Small Acts of Resistance (Part Two)

In Part One, I focused mostly on wearing masks—or, more precisely, not wearing them when we don’t absolutely have to. In this installment, I’d like to propose several other “small ways” we can individually and collectively resist the Left’s COVID fascism:

Get out of the house. Besides masking, another policy that not only doesn’t work to control the virus but creates even greater problems is lockdowns. As former President Trump so rightly foresaw, the “cure” has become far worse than the disease. Even the corrupt World Health Organization concluded as much. The WHO’s “COVID-19 envoy,” Dr. David Nabarro, stated back in October that they “do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus” and admitted that “lockdowns have one consequence that you must never belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer.” We might add that they have made a lot of middle-class people an awful lot poorer, too.

However, no government can fully lock us down if we simply refuse to be locked down. Every “lockdown order” I’ve seen includes “exceptions” for things like exercise and shopping for “essentials.” So go out and exercise. Go for long walks, at a local park or just in your neighborhood. Walking is exercise, right? And go shopping, a lot. Make multiple trips to the grocery store instead of just one, just to show you can. Go walk around Walmart or Target. Or at the mall. That way you’re exercising AND shopping for essentials at the same time. And the more people who are out and about, the more powerless the government is to stop us.

Frequent small businesses. While you’re out, be sure to shop at some small businesses, too. Those big-box stores are great places to walk around and pretend to be looking for “essentials” while thumbing your nose at lockdown orders, but when it comes to actually buying stuff, as much as possible, do that at the mom-and-pop places—those that haven’t already closed down, that is. Given the catastrophic impact of lockdowns on small businesses, and the government’s obvious, quasi-fascistic preference for the major retailers, it’s hard not to conclude that our COVID overlords have it in for the former. You can thwart them by taking your business to those small, local stores—especially restaurants—whenever possible.

Gather. Remember when we were told by said overlords that we shouldn’t get together with extended family for Thanksgiving or Christmas? I said “nuts” to that. As a result, our family had a wonderful holiday season, in which no one got sick as a result of the festivities. And I plan to continue gathering with friends and family—those who aren’t cowering in fear or who don’t have good reason to consider themselves especially vulnerable—whenever I feel like it. Just like Dr. Birx.

Resume basic human interactions. To what extent will we abrogate life in order to avoid death? How much of our humanity are we willing to sacrifice in the name of “saving lives”—even accepting the dubious proposition that any of our actions might actually help? As Egyptian Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz so succinctly put it, “Fear doesn’t prevent death. It prevents life.”

So come on. Live a little. Reach out and connect with your fellow human beings. Shake hands. Hug. Speaking for myself, if I must renounce my own humanity and that of others in order to live, then living isn’t really worth it. (But I don’t. It’s not a binary choice.)

Go to church. It’s been abundantly obvious from the beginning that the Godless globalist/socialist element in our government does not want us to go to church. Why else enact stricter guidelines for worship services than for casinos? Or for “mostly peaceful” Antifa/BLM riots? Clearly, one of the best ways you can frustrate their evil design is to go to church, anyway. And if your church isn’t meeting, find one that is. Comparatively minor doctrinal differences pale beside our shared stake in religious liberty.

Broadcast the truth. Since most of us don’t have our own television or radio programs, I use “broadcast” here in the old-fashioned sense: to spread far and wide. Using whatever platforms you have, obviously including but not limited to social media, share information that clearly and persuasively proclaims the truth—about masks, about lockdowns, about COVID numbers.

Far too few of us ever hear any good news about the pandemic. Instead, we are constantly inundated with negative messages from leftwing media, politicians, and bureaucrats, all meant to keep us perched on the edge of panic. Why they are doing this is a topic for another column. But our “elites” are clearly either ignorant of or intentionally hiding the facts, which are often far different from the hype—and far more hopeful.

Thankfully, there are many good places to find those facts, including this site. One of the best I’ve come across is Dr. Andrew Bostom’s Twitter feed. The website of the American Institute for Economic Research is also a great resource, featuring a plethora of well-reasoned, thoroughly documented articles. Post some of those on Facebook. And if the shameless and asinine “fact checkers” remove them, just keep re-posting, over and over. If enough people do that, eventually word will get out.

Those are just a few ways that, even if you’re not a rabble-rouser like me, you can take a stand for freedom. I could probably identify many other “small acts,” but I’m running out of space and these are plenty to start with. Over time, if enough of us quietly resist, the Left’s tyrannical restrictions will probably collapse under their own weight. But if not—well, I guess we’ll cross that Old North Bridge when we come to it.
